Can we all agree that we’re trying to do some type of detox right now? Well, we all know drinking a detox smoothie is a great way to get a healthy start to your day, not to mention 2017! After Chloe was born I drank this smoothie every morning to help shed my baby weight and keep a natural glow. But now, nearly two years later, I’m still drinking a smoothie every morning- but with a little twist on the original recipe. So here’s my updated detox smoothie recipe:
Ingredients:
1. Kale & Spinach
While I like kale smoothies, I’ve found that I enjoy smoothies more when they have an equal mix of spinach and kale because they’re not as heavy. Anytime I’m at the grocery store, I pick up the pre-packaged mix! (side note: if you don’t use it all in your smoothie, it makes for a great salad!)
2. Frozen Mango
Chloe loves mango so our freezer is always stocked with this. I really like using frozen mango (or any frozen fruit/berry) in my smoothies as a replacement for ice.
3. Apple & Banana
You gotta have fruit! I always have apples and bananas around in my kitchen, so it’s a no-brainer to add them in!
4. Lemon Juice
Speaking of things I always have in my kitchen, I ALWAYS have fresh lemons thanks to the giant lemon tree in my backyard. I’m always looking for reasons to use them.
5. Cup of Water
While you can use milk in your smoothies, I like using water. It makes the smoothie ten times lighter, gives it a lighter consistency, and has fewer calories and less fat than milk!
6. Flaxseed
Last but not least, I add a couple tablespoons of flaxseed into my smoothie. Flaxseed is great for your digestion since it has tons of fiber, plus Omega-3!
Now I know this isn’t the most creative smoothie you’ve ever seen, but I love it for two very important reasons:
1. I always have these ingredients on hand!
2. It’s a great base, so you can really add anything you want/ have on hand into it, such as almond butter or peanut butter, avocado, etc. and keep building from it.
I prefer my smoothies to be light and basic. Creative smoothies can sometimes get a bit heavy and if you’re not careful, they can get really high in calories and you can even end up gaining weight. This is always my base, but if I want to make it sweeter or switch it up, I can add some other easy ingredients like … honey, berries, protein powders (especially great if you work out a lot), chia seeds (great for meal replacement smoothies), bee pollen (for allergies and especially good if you get it from your local farmer’s market!), or daikon (which according to my dear friend Jana Williams, makes you pee a lot)!

You certainly know how to bring an issue to light and make it important.
More people must read this and understand this side of the story.
I can’t believe you aren’t more popular because you certainly have the gift.
Do you drink this smoothie ONLY as breakfast? Or is this part of your breakfast meal?
Você inspira a minha criatividade. Parabéns por esse trabalho maravilhoso.
Thank you so much for sharing this great smoothie recipe! I love making smoothies as well because I always feel so much better (like literally) after I drink them. I don’t know if the effects are psychological or not, but I somehow feel healthier!

I definitely prefer my smoothies to have water over milk too. The detox smoothies come in handy when I go on a diet. Even green juice is super helpful too.
