There are a couple of things that are just understood when it comes to a beauty routine.
I’m not even talking about skincare or makeup either. Things like, for example, brushing your teeth, giving your feet and your nails some love… even the *intimate* products no one talks about. If you’re like me, one of the first things I do when I hop out of the shower is: moisturize. I usually slather on some body lotion and call it a day… but sometimes I feel like it doesn’t moisturize my skin as much as it should, especially as we move into the colder and drier months.
I know some of the girls on the CINCteam use body oil instead of body lotion post-shower, but is one truly better than the other? I decided to do some research, and here’s what I found:
So our skin naturally produces oil, called lipids. Basically, they’re your skin’s natural fats. They keep moisture IN and dirt & impurities OUT. They also help your skin’s natural repair process.
Here’s what you need to know about BODY OILS:
Ideally, use a body oil when your skin is still wet/damp post-shower so that it can lock in that moisture and gives you tons of hydration. The oil gets absorbed into your skin, which treats it like its own, and leaves your skin super moisturized, soft and cuddle-able.
Here’s what you need to know about BODY LOTION:
There’s just something so luxe about putting on a creamy body lotion! Lotions work best on dry skin because they’re generally made up of a mixture of water and oil.Lotions are great for penetrating your skin to deliver hydration.
So should you be using one over the other? Turns out, you should be using whichever works best for you! Just so long as you’re moisturizing your body after your shower, it doesn’t really matter if you use a body oil or a body lotion. Jane likes to mix her a few drops of her body oil into her body lotion and then apply!! Hannah likes to use body oil after she shaves her legs and body lotion on the other days!
PSA: for drier months, make sure you turn on that humidifier or diffuser to get more moisture into the air!
What do YOU guys think? Are you team body lotion, team body oil or team both? Drop a comment down below and let me know!
PS: thanks for modeling, Hannah!

I live in CO and have always had trouble with dry skin—especially come winter. We have a notoriously dry and chilly climate. Add wind to that in the cooler months and my skin is not happy.
Because of that I have been looking into body oils—lotion just doesn’t cut it anymore. Of all the oil products you shared, is there one you recommend most for deep hydration?

Hi Grace! It’s a toss up between the Go-To oil and the Herbivore Oil! I like the Herbivore oil a lot because it has a spray nozzle, but the Go-To oil is just as hydrating! xo
Hi Grace! It’s Hannah from the CINCteam! I agree with Chriselle, but I’m partial to the Go-To oil, or even just coconut oil! x
Both!
I love oils + lotions. And I especially love added a few drops of oil into my lotion an dusing it.
It’s a great trick.

Yes love that! xo
Using the body oil right after you get out of the shower is such a great idea! Lock in all that moisture underneath your skin!

Glad you enjoyed it, love! xo
I switched almost exclusively to body oil a few years back. It took a bit of getting used to, but my skin is happier now that I’ve worked out the kinks. I only use lotion nowadays if I’m very short on time since it absorbs faster.

Yes absolutely! Glad you enjoyed the post! xo
thank you
I always put on lotion right out of the shower, and it’s really made such a difference for my skin! 🙂 I’ve yet to try body oils because I’m scared it’ll be too greasy, but I really want to try them for the winter, since I get really dry! Thanks for these great recommendations!

Your skin will soak them right up! But if you’re worried, do it after you shower at night so you can sleep on it! xo
ah thanks for sharing! I’m SUCH a fan of body oils. Didn’t realize there was much of a difference between the two either! x
