12 Days of Chriselle, Fashion

Tits Out

Happy Saturday and Happy Day 9 of the 12 Days of CHRIS-elle! Today, I wanted to highlight someone who’s not only bringing some good into the community but also happens to be one of my very good friends- Aimee Song of Song of Style

When people think of LA style, no one fits it better than Aimee! She’s got that quintessential effortless LA style that everyone loves and is the ultimate cool girl with the ultimate cool girl clothing line. Aimee and her sister Dani have a line called Two Songs together and it has the cutest (and softest) tees and sweaters. I love her and I love her line so much, which was why I was so excited to bring her on for 12 Days of CHRIS-elle this year!

Along with Two Songs’ super cool ‘Tits Out’ shirt, I wanted to highlight a very important message of this particular shirt.  In a world and industry full of competition, it’s so easy to compare yourself to others- but at the end of the day it’s all about finding and surrounding yourself with people who inspire you and help you grow! Aimee and I have known each other since we started blogging ( about 10 years ago), and watching her flourish into a mega girl boss taking on politics and social issues is amazing and inspiring.

Out of Two Songs’ collection full of super cool tees and sweatshirts with fun slogans and designs, I was so inspired by this one especially! With everything that’s happened and is happening this year, it’s amazing to see women everywhere taking a stand and demanding to be seen, heard and treated equally. To me, this shirt is a representation of femininity and self-expression.

So whether it be to embracing yourself, your body, supporting other girls, or all of the above… I hope that this post encourages you to do just that today and every day. (PS: 50% of the proceeds of this shirt goes to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation!) Be sure to comment on all of the 12 Days posts to win one of these shirts and some more amazing prizes!

I am studying to go into fashion production and it’s definitely full of competition! Not only do I compare yourself to others, but we are often compared to by others too, so much that it unfortunately becomes the norm… The biggest shoutout to my mum who have supported me all the way (even though she pretends she doesn’t) and my sister who is critical of all that I do when I’m there but actually is the complete opposite and is really encouraging when I am down. My university tutor who gave me a chance in fashion even though I don’t technically have the qualifications to be part of this course and my classmateys that have dealt with my incessant questions and have pulled my lifeboat along the year. I am so thankful for everything and it is ultimately all those that are close to me that have been inspiring my work and have really nurtured my growth. Last but not least, my gran, without whom I would be stuck in another career path and lamenting why I didn’t change course into the arts. She was the one that stood up for me and had my back when I was at my lowest. Her unconditional support, being my fit model when I first started fashion, our fashion museum excursions. Lots of love all around xx

My mum just found out she had breast cancer a few months ago. She found out a hard lump suddenly one night after visiting my granny. It was painful and after tested, it’s malignant. My granny was so sick and passed away in a short 2-week period of time. My mum was going to retire a month later. Everything was happening so fast and so soon! I realised we keep hearing people around us having breast cancer but it is so much different when someone really close to us has it. It’s like lighting strike to my head. So I am glad the awareness of breast cancer is getting wider and more women get to know about self-check and the signs and symptoms better! This few weeks not only I have spent more time with my family especially my grandpa who is almost 90 yo, and mostly my mum! Giving her the moral support she needs, preparing her mentally and psychologically to fight cancer, & side effects of chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

  • Naïlah says:

Honestly, I don’t really look forward to anything during the holiday season. I’m so used to spending holidays alone. You mentioned that you would skip class to work more hours at your job. I did that PLUS I didn’t go home for holidays in college because I got paid extra to work on those days. I was a desk receptionist of dormitories and honestly those were the best days to work! Those were the quiet days. After college, I was in korea. I didn’t have to work on Christmas but I did have to work on New Years. Now I’m home and my family doesn’t do anything special except cook a big dinner that I can’t eat because i’m Vegetarian. And I personally hate cooking myself. So holidays have not been anything special to me during my adult life. Christmas was my favorite day as a child, now as an adult, I don’t have a favorite holiday. Everyday is just a normal day for me.

I look forward to binging on holiday movies and food with the family and having ZERO regrets about it!

Your last post for 12 days of Chriselle really struck a chord with me. I’ve always been the type of person to have dreams as big as my mind could fathom yet these last few years I’ve felt so defeated and those dreams of mine somehow became just that… Dreams. I know it may seem silly but I feel like winning this computer would be the jumpstart I need to believe in myself again and know that anything I set my mind to is attainable, not just some wish. So I can get this show on the road as they say.

  • Rorie says:

Family time is always the highlight of my holidays. Growing up with four sisters was amazing, and equally amazing is the fact that we’ve remained incredibly close friends despite all of us having our own lives and careers and families now. That said, it’s tough to coordinate time for all of us to get together throughout the year, and it is only going to grow tougher as one sister’s husband is in the process of finishing his ROTC program, and another is finishing her final semester of university. We’re all busy and pressed for time, so making sure we set aside weekends during the holiday season is a huge priority for all of us. We bake and decorate cookies together, run a sibling Secret Santa, watch all the classic Christmas movies, and help our parents put up the “family” Christmas tree. It’s even more special now that my nieces are with us, and we’ve started handing down family traditions that were created when we were children.

  • Isabella says:

I look forward most to seeing my family and spending time with them! I know that these moments are precious and we may not be able to spend the holidays together as we are used to so I truly cherish these moments when we’re all together! Thank you!

There isn’t much time or a good place to bake in college, so I would like to take advantage of this holiday season and do everything that I want to do.

What I look forward to the most during the Holiday season is the happiness, warmth and the love that people give to others.

It is soo important to give something to others who don’t have the privilege to get something for themselves.

The reason why I indulged myself in this giveaway is because you will be contributing a share to the people who actually need it. This is something that nobody has ever done. It is such an amazing yet a very essential thing to do, Chriselle!! I feel really proud!!! You will be an angel to them!!

Merry Christmas And A Happy New Year In Advance To All

What an amazing cause and such a stylish tee too, my favourite look with jeans heels and a leather jacket for a night out and the good cause is a great bonus! I look forward to spending time with my husband during the Holidays as he travels so much during a big part of our year. It’s so wonderful to have the time apart as it makes our relationship so strong but the time together during the Holidays is now so special and relaxing I love it! x

  • Taquiena Boston says:

What I love most about this time of year are the holiday markets. There’s one that goes from the day after Thanksgiving almost up to Christmas Eve in downtown DC. And this year there’s a lot of pop-up markets happening in various neighborhoods with chocolates, condiments, shrubs, jewelry, clothing, housewares, accessories, and crafts by local makers. One of my favorites is the BZB Afrocentric gift show that brings artists and artisinal makers from all over the country. My favorite is a milliner who makes artsy hats that fit over curly styles, afros, and locks that make it difficult to find hats in retail shops. The holiday markets and pop-ups make the entire city seem festive and is a great break from DC being only associated with national politics. This is a city with its own character and creative community.
