Since I’ve been moisturizing my growing belly every night with oils, I thought I’d share with you guys one of my favorite oils that I use– coconut oil! Packed with Vitamin E and fatty acids, coconut oil is perfect for meeting most if not all of your beauty needs! Introducing 7 ways to reap the natural beautifying benefits of coconut oil with these easy-to-DIY beauty tips!
1. Shaving cream
Simply slather coconut oil over your legs in the shower and shave per usual. The coconut oil acts as a protective lather between the blade and the skin, preventing irritation and razor burn. It not only acts as a shaving cream but an intense moisturizer as well. I’ve always had issues with my legs being dry , and felt that shaving cream didn’t moisturize as much as I needed it to. Whereas with coconut oil not only did it instantly moisturize my legs, but also keeps it smooth & shiny days after.
2. Cuticle Oil
With regular application, coconut oil is an effective cuticle treatment which will strengthen and condition your nails, helping seal in the moisture needed to combat dryness and brittleness.
3. Hair mask
Honey and coconut oil is quite the power couple providing your locks a beautiful, healthy shine. This is a great mask to repair and moisturize dry and damaged hair.
Ingredients:
2. 1 tbsp organic honey
Instructions:
1. Mix ingredients in a bowl
2. Rub mixture with fingertips all over hair (could be wet or dry) , but mainly focusing on the ends of the hair.
3. Tie your hair into a bun and leave mask on for 30-40 mins.
4. Rinse with your regular shampoo and conditioner routine
4. Makeup remover
Coconut oil will gently remove even the most lasting of waterproof mascara whilst moisturizing that paper-thin skin under your eyes. Use fingers or cotton ball and massage in circular motions.
5. Body scrub
This 3-ingredient sea salt scrub will exfoliate dry skin while moisture seeps deep into the skin’s layers. To indulge your island senses, add a few drops of citrus essential oils (i.e. grapefruit, orange, etc.).
Ingredients:
3. 3-4 drops of citrus essential oil
Instructions:
1. Mix ingredients in a bowl and transfer into a jar to store.
2. Rub mixture with fingertips all over body with special attention to drier areas (i.e. elbows, knees, etc). Because of the coarse texture of the salt particles, avoid rubbing too harshly against skin.
6. Whipped body lotion
The fatty acids in coconut oil lock in moisture while the Vitamin E helps heal scars and burns. Whip together with shea butter and almond oil to create a buttery cream that revitalizes skin’s softness while improving skin’s texture. Plus, your skin will be smelling seductive, warm and comforting.
Ingredients:
1. 1 cup organic raw shea butter (solid)
2. 1/2 cup coconut oil (solid)
3. 1/2 cup almond oil (liquid)
Instructions:
1. Melt shea butter and coconut oil in the top of a double boiler. Remove from heat and let cool for 30 minutes.
2. Stir in almond oil
3. Place oil mixture in freezer or outside to chill.
4. Wait until oils start to partially solidify then whip until a butter-like consistency is achieved.
5. Place in clean, glass jar and enjoy! A little goes a long way.
7. Cheekbone highlighter
Last but not least, my little secret to “dewy” looking skin. Simply sweep a small amount of coconut oil with fingers on your cheekbones to create a radiantly dewy complexion.
As most of you guys know I have officially launched the “Health & Nutrition” category last week with our very first post on “Greek Yogurt in 7 Ways“. I was overwhelmed with the positive response from that post, and even to some of you sharing your very own Greek yogurt creations with me on Twitter & Instagram! I decided that I wanted to create a series called “7 Ways”, where I show you how to use certain products and recipes in multiple different ways. Please let me know in the comments below if you would like to see more posts like this!
What do YOU think?

I love the tips and I admire you for not having that RIDICULOUS “oil pulling” crap on here 🙂 thanks
yess i like the whole “7 ways to” series idea!
Coconut oil is great for oil pulling , but I will have to say coconut oil may not be the best to run dowm the drain while shaving or washing out your hair mask due to clogging.
Awesome post! May I ask what kind of camera you use for the pictures? Thanks a lot!
Great post Chriselle!:) i grew up with those “grandma” kind of recipes and I still go for something homemade when it comes to masks or when I’m ill :)! To be honest, the only time I use oils is to moisturise the ends of my hair. I have mixed skin so I cannot use them on my face, but it is a very good idea for shaving the legs and as a body lotion, especially during summer when we want perfect glowing legs ;)! Great tips! Thank you for sharing!

Gracias!

I love coconut oil for it’s many uses as well! One thing to note though, if you’re acne prone don’t use coconut oil on your face because it can actually be comedogenic. If you’re looking for more ways to use coconut oil, please check out my article here: http://www.charmystique.com/2014/08/one-product-ten-uses-coconut-oil.html

Btw,do you also apply coconut oil on your belly to prevent stretch marks or do you use a different product for that?
I’m preggy too and enjoying every minute of it!

Great uses! I really like using it to remove my makeup and then again after my skincare routine for a deep overnight hydration. It definitely feels a little greasy before bed, but I wake up with radiate, lush, hydrated skin that I just can’t get enough of!

PS: I love love love your posts and pictures and style and the baby-bump make’s you even more beautiful! 🙂 Have an easy delivery and a healthy happy baby! Warmest hugs and kisses from far far away 🙂
Aaaah shea butter+coconut oil + almond oil salve! One of the well-kept beauty secrets of life in traditional Ghana. Grandmama loved it and passed it on to me. It’s been one month since my second baby was born and you wouldn’t know it to look at my stomach. Softens and smooths the skin and wrinkles. I highly recommend it ladies! Thanks for the post, Criselle; yes, do keep them coming!
I´d definitively like to see more!
I use coconut oil for some time now! It´s doing a great job, especialy as make up remover.
Thanks for introducing even more ways to incorporate the oil into my beauty routine!
I’ve yet to try coconut oil as a hair mask but I’ve heard amazing things!

I love coconut oil. I use it everyday on my skin after my morning shower.
However I don’t use it on my hair anymore as it makes my hair dry and brittle. For my hair I prefer avocado and castor oil.
Did you know you could also use it to cook?
For the scrub, try switching the salt for baking soda 😉 It works wonderfully!

I love the idea of using it for eye make up remover since it is a natural solution! I also recently heard (from Lauryn at The Skinny Confidential) that you can use coconut oil and a men´s razor for shaving your under arms (weird body part to talk about), so I look forward to trying that out as well!
