Let’s talk about feminine hygiene.
If you have a vagina, chances are you’ve either thought about buying or have bought something to help keep it “fresh” down there, especially if you still get a visit from Aunt Flo every month. Nothing like bleeding for a week straight to make you want a shower, right?
With that said, are feminine hygiene products really necessary? There’s so much information out there saying to avoid them at all costs to prevent messing your natural pH… fun fact: wine and your vagina have the same pH level! So what’s a girl to do?
We’re breaking down some of the do’s and dont’s when it comes to feminine hygiene so keep scrolling!
Do…
… know your body.
The vagina is just one part of the female genitalia. If you’d like a more detailed breakdown of what’s going on down there, this article is really informative. With that said, using (gentle! fragrance-free!) feminine washes on your labia is much more acceptable than your vagina.
… use something gentle.
As stated above, if you feel the absolute need to use something to freshen up down there (ie: during that time of the month or post- sexy time) using something GENTLE is key.
… your own research.
Your vagina, your choice! Get to know it, say hey, and learn what’s best for you. Ask your gyno on what’s best for you and your body and do your own research!
Don’t…
… use any products with fragrance.
This is a typical rule of thumb for most things going on your skin, your face included! Say no to scented tampons and pads, and stray away from any washes that have artificial scents.
… ignore your body.
If you notice something funky down there, don’t ignore it and schedule an appointment with your gyno, asap! Your body is trying to tell you something.
…. douche.
Just, don’t. It’s like, really bad for you.
So what do we recommend?
Fur Stubble Cream
If you shave down there, it can sometimes leave skin feeling really dry and irritated. This stubble cream is great for preventing ingrown hairs (which can be really uncomfortable) as well as hydrating your skin. It’s made with Shea Butter, Jojoba oil and, Tea Tree oil.
Queen V The Spritzer
You might remember Chriselle talking about this spray in her post about her Bottom Shelf Beauty favorites. It’s talc-free and helps control any odor while restoring your V’s natural pH balance. She loves using it post-workouts every once in a while and during those hot and sticky summer days.
Rael Feminine Wet Wipes
Using a wipe during that time of the month is the best way to a) save your undies and b) feel fresh and clean. These from Rael are super gentle, biodegradable, vegan and cruelty-free! We also love these from DeoDoc.
Queen V DD Probiotic
Much like skincare, what goes in your body can definitely have an impact down there. These probiotics are great for balancing yeast and bacteria, while also supporting your digestive, immune and antioxidant health.
Rael Natural Foaming Feminine Wash
This feminine wash is one of our favorites. It ticks the boxes of being unscented and gentle, and it’s formulated with natural ingredients. It’s safe to use daily, but we recommend using it only when you feel like you really need it. Remember: use everything in moderation.
Do you have any feminine hygiene products that you really love? Have you had bad experiences with any and want to pass on a warning? Drop a comment down below and let’s talk about feminine hygiene.
Until next time,
xx CINCteam

It is important to maintain good daily feminine hygiene to prevent irritation, odour, and infections from occuring. It is important to realise that just like other parts of the body, a woman’s intimate area requires special care and attention. That is why knowing the basics of feminine hygiene can help you tremendously and avoid unnecessary infections.
