I’m constantly in front of the camera and as much as I focus on having natural and dewy skin, I also have to rely on certain products to make sure my face is clear and camera ready for shoot days! But as important as it is to look camera ready, it’s also important for me to make sure that I remove all of that gunk off my face before I go to to sleep at night! That’s why I have such an extensive night routine, as you guys might see sometimes on my Snapchat (@chrisellelim). From my posts on DIY Face Masks to using natural oils, I love to show you guys how to have natural and healthy skin, but that all starts with removing your makeup properly!
Here are my top five essential products to properly & completely remove your makeup!
1. Makeup Removal Balm
On the discussion of Korean beauty products, this makeup removal balm is one of my secret weapons. All I have to do is massage it all over my face and rinse with a bit water to remove my makeup. It’s super easy and super gentle on my skin, and it smells like cherry blossoms! It removes make up, sun screen, dirt, excess sweat and oil, all while leaving my skin feel smooth and hydrated.
Shop: Banila Co. Clean it Zero
2. Oil Based Cleanser
One of the biggest things for me is that I rely on oils to remove my makeup. It’s not enough to just have a cleanser because only an oil based cleanser can completely and thoroughly remove your all makeup. I love this product because it has hints of lavender oil for calmness and the coconut oil is great for gently removing makeup while hydrating my skin!
Shop: Aromatica Natural Coconut Cleansing Oil
3. Olive Oil
Instead bringing my entire beauty cabinet when I’m traveling, I just bring a vial of olive oil to help take off my makeup. (In addition to a good cleanser of course!) But like I said, nothing removes your makeup better than an oil based product. Olive oil is also really great for hydrating your skin and, contrary to popular belief, it doesn’t clog your pores! I like using this to put over my face and then washing it off with a cleanser for a clean face.
4. Waterproof Eye-makeup Remover
Taking care of my eyes is one of my biggest beauty priorities as you might have been able to guess with my ‘how to get rid of under eye circles’ post. Having the right eye makeup remover is super important to my routine. I like using the Smashbox eye makeup remover because it takes off waterproof makeup really easily. It’s really gentle, and is dermatologist approved!
Shop: Smashbox It’s a Wrap
5. Vaseline
Vaseline is another great and easy product to remove really heavy eye makeup. Sometimes when I want to give my eyes a break from the chemicals in other products I like to use Vaseline on a cotton ball to take off my eyeliner, eyeshadow and mascara. (See other beauty benefits of Vaseline.)
And there you have it! The five products I rely on to have a clean and fresh face!

This feature is absolutely stunning and super helpful! I actually use Albolene Eye Makeup remover because coconut oil irritates my eyes. This makeup remover is amazing though. It melts the makeup right off your skin AND it moisturizes my face too. I watched your awesome video about getting unready and trust me, this turns all those steps into one easy one.
Your skin is gorgeous! Great tips, oil based makeup removers are my go-to!

Hey Chriselle, really nice post. 🙂
I also recommend castor oil for lashes and eyebrows. It makes the hair thinker and healthier. After you remive your make-up you can use a very thin brush or a q-tip to add a bit of oil onto the lashes. Results are to be seen in one month.
It’s equally good for overall hair treatment aka a hair mask.
The pictures are incredible! Cleansing is such an important part of a good skincare routine!

I’m not sure about using vaseline on my eyes, that sounds awful to me haha and I thought that vaseline was very bad for the skin?
Otherwise great tips!

Great tips! I’ll definitely have to check out oil-based cleansers. I have heard some great things!
My absolute ‘cult’ product for removing eye makeup is Mary Kay Oil Free Eye Makeup Remover. It’s SO FAB! I get sooooooo sad when low, and because you have to buy it from a consultant I buy 3 at a time. Doesn’t burn, oil free, and takes off every drop of waterproof or regular mascara. Plus, you won’t lose one eyelash when removing. Try it! (Plus it’s in a pretty pink bottle)
Bisous! ?

Coconut oil works just as well. I swear my eyelashes have gotten thicker from using it to remove waterproof mascara.
I always seem to stryggle taking off every bit of makeup. Thanks for the tips!

If you want to give your skin a break from chemicals, you might not want to use Vaseline! Vaseline is a by-product of the oil industry (petroleum jelly) and is pore clogging.
To remove eye makeup gently, I use micellar water, as it leaves no residue behind, which is especially important for the eye area.
Now I don’t feel so guilty reading blogs like these because I’ve added a hydrating cleanser to my post-makeup routine.
Thanks for the tips, Chriselle.
yay! i’m so glad you like them! xx Chriselle
I use Shu Uemura cleansing oil to remove my makeup; its my holy grail and I swear by it. I used to have pretty bad skin; acne and scarring but after I discovered the cleansing oil it had been a life saver. My skin now is much clearer and brighter; with occasional pimple here and there (that time of the month). So I would use an oil-base eye makeup remover to wipe my eye makeup, followed by Shu Uemura then cleanser.
Waterproof remover really is key and I will have to try this balm, it sounds great!

I swear by coconut oil for eye makeup remover. When I travel, my skin usually gets very dry, face included, even when I have oily/combo skin. So , I double up on the coconut oil. I use it after showering to moisturize my skin and also to remove my eye makeup. Sometimes I even dab a drop or two in my face as moisturizer. I love the smell, it gets the job done, and no, it doesn’t clog your pores or breaks you out. Take my word for it. XOXO
thanks for the tip! gotta love coconut oil! xx Chriselle

I completely agree that oil based cleansers are perfect for removing makeup and sunscreen which is often difficult to remove.
I recently purchased a cleansing oil balm from the Faceshop which works really well. Is the Clean it Zero an oil balm?
And where can you purchase Banila and co products in the US?
