I’ve been traveling pretty much nonstop for the past few months. For whatever reason, California is so far from everywhere else in the world! All this jumping back and forth between time zones has been super taxing and stressful on my body. My internal clock and sleeping schedule gets thrown off, and then I also have to fight jet lag when I land! Whenever I travel, it’s usually for only a few days (I was in Greece for 3 days) so that doesn’t give me enough time to recover from jet lag. To make the most out of my travel time, I have a few tricks I use to quickly adjust to whatever time zone I find myself in. Here are my 5 tips to fight jet lag!
1. Sleep on the Plane
This tip really depends on where you’re flying to, how long you’ll be in the air for, and what time it will be when you arrive at your destination. Traveling is extremely taxing and stressful for the body, so try and catch some zzz’s on the plane, especially when you’re on a red-eye! I love wearing eye masks to block out the light for the best sleep. (It’s one of my carry-on essentials.) If you’re already re-setting your body to the time of your destination, by the time you land you’d be adjusted already! For example, I flew to New York on Sunday at midnight. When we landed in New York, it was already 8am because of the time difference! So my team and I slept on the plane and we landed in New York ready to have a full day of meetings and events. That was the night I went to the Glamour Women of the Year Awards! I have time to take a nap either so it definitely helped that we slept on the plane to adjust my body to east coast time!
2. Use Almond Oil
You all know how much I love my oils, (check out my favorite oils here!) so it’s only natural that almond oil makes this list. It’s super hydrating, won’t clog your pores and is super gentle on sensitive skin! The air on the planes is so dry that I usually drench my face in oil just so I would have dewy and fresh skin by the time I get off the plane. I also like to use almond oil because it really helps to reduce dark circles under the eyes!
3. Drink Tea
So I love coffee but it’s very dehydrating. Tea is much more hydrating and better for the skin. Some teas also have caffeine, so it can help you stay awake if you need that extra caffeine boost!
4. Take Hydration Pills
Along with keeping yourself and your skin hydrated on the plane, you also need internal hydration! I recently got these hydration pills from Korres on my trip to Greece, and now I take two right before I fly. Of course there’s no replacement for a tall glass of H20, but I like to use these pills as a hydrating supplement, kind of like a water vitamin!
5. Go Outside
This might seem like a counter-intuitive tip because if you’re jet lag then you should catch up on your sleep right? But being exposed to the sunlight can trick your mind and can help your body register the new time zone! When I’m back at my hotel room and comfortable bed, that’s when exhaustion hits me and I just want to sleep. But when I’m out and about, I just get into the moment and forget about how tired I am!
There you have it! My 5 tips for fighting and preventing jet lag! Do you have any tips? Let me know below!

Hey Sasa! Thank you! xoxo
I’m very prone to jetlag, and the most unfortunate thing is that I really can’t sleep on planes 🙁
Haha maybe I’ll try the eye mask thing next time, but it’s just so difficult for me to fall asleep when I hear so much noise and distraction.
Thank you so much for these tips, though, Chriselle 🙂 They’re definitely very helpful!

The hydration pill is rather something new I have not heard of, but certainly makes sense. Traveling is fun, yet comes with the stress of time changes and all. Knowing how to stay in control as you have with the great tips. We can all stay ahead! Fabulous tips as always! 🙂

I’ve been fighting the jet lag quite many times and yes, all of these are the tips that I always apply too and one that always works for me is not to eat greasy, too salty or too sweet food + first 2-3 days always go to bed as close to midnight as possible. That somehow makes a big difference for me ( staying awake as long as possible ).
