How to Chill TF Out at Work

Getting stressed out at work is basically just part of being alive and part of any job.

However, we all know that too much stress can be bad for your health, so if you’re at the office and everything starts to get overwhelming – sometimes you’ve just got to take a step back and chill TF out. We all know that it’s always easier said than done, though! We all deal with stress differently, so being in tune with your body and your needs can make all the difference to get you through these stressful moments.

First of all, I think we can all agree that having someone tell you to ‘calm down’ is possibly the worst way to actually get someone to calm down. So… I’ve slowly become more self-aware to know when I need to take 5 to get my headspace straight. So when you need to find your zen at the office, I put together 5 tips to help you chill TF out at work.

Keep scrolling to find your zen:

1. Breathe

If you read this, it’s time to take a deep breath. Beyond just breathing in and out, there are so many breathing techniques and exercises to help you calm down. The ‘4,7,8’ technique is really great! Basically, inhale for 4 seconds, hold it in for 7 seconds and breathe out slowly for 8 seconds (PS: this breathing technique is also great for falling asleep). Breathing exercises are great to help lower your blood pressure and bring a sense of zen. Close your eyes, do some breathing exercises and find your happy place.

2. Step Away

Removing yourself from the situation, even if that situation is just at your desk can really help you get your head on straight. So step outside if possible or just away to the bathroom. Take a few deep breaths, give yourself a pep talk, and walk back in and kick some ass!

3. Write It Down

When you’re tackling a huge task head-on, it can be super overwhelming, and in turn – stressful. Breaking things down into bite-sized pieces makes everything so much more manageable. A big thing to remember is to focus on the solution, not the problem! Whether that’s physically writing down a do-to list with a pen and paper, or even on your notes in your phone or laptop, having a game plan makes all the difference – especially when you can compartmentalize and break it down into more manageable action pieces.

4. CBD and Essentials Oils

If CBD is legal in your state, a little can go a very long way! According to our very own CBD Fairy, Jane, a tincture or a gel capsule is a great way to get some zen. (To read more about CBD, click here!) If you’re not into CBD, or it’s not legal in your state, essential oils are also a great, natural way to chill. I’d recommend rosemary, jasmine, or lavender. If you can have a diffuser at your desk, the CINCteam loves this one from Vitruvi! If you can’t, the essential oils on their own can really help. Either a dot on your temples, in your hands with a deep breath in, or the back of your neck can make you feel so much better.

5. Body Language

Are your teeth clenched? Are your shoulders next to your ears? Stress can translate into your body and give you knots on top of knots. So relax your shoulders, unclench your jaw before you give yourself a headache, and be conscious of your posture. It might be a habit to get into, but remember to take some time away from your computer screen and stretch. Gently tilt your head back and forth, stretch your arms, and get up and walk around! Your body will thank you.
