There’s so much focus on haircare and skincare that sometimes the rest of your body can fall through the cracks. That’s why I wanted to focus on the health of your nails today and how to properly give them the love and attention they deserve.
I’ve been religiously getting a gel manicure for the last year or so, but a few weeks ago- I didn’t have time to go into a nail salon and ended up peeling the manicure off myself! (Note: never ever do this.) I then realized that I was in desperate need of a nail detox because getting consistent gel manicures are rough on those nailbeds.
So I did some research, asked around the office and came up with these tips to take care of your nails:
Pay Attention to those Cuticles
Your cuticle health is just as important as your actual nails! Hannah (who I stole from her laptop to model for this shoot) uses this Burt’s Bee’s Cuticle Cream. It keeps your cuticles and fingers super soft and moisturized. It’s great to put on right before bed so all the goodness can get soaked into your skin overnight!
Though you shouldn’t cut your cuticles too much, a little tool like this one is great for trimming or cutting away any hangnails.
No Glove No Love
Always wear gloves when you’re cleaning or washing dishes. A pair of rubber gloves like these can totally save your nails and your hands from any harsh chemicals you might be working with!
Moisture Moisture Moisture
This might seem like a no-brainer, but your nails and hands need moisture just as much as your face does! A good, not greasy multipurpose super balm like this one from LanoLips is great for dry skin, and you can use it all over your face too! It’s super lightweight and instantly soaks into your skin (sidenote: how cute is the packaging?).
Take your Vitamins
If you remember from this post here, the CINCteam and I are totally into beauty supplements right now! Beyond being good for your overall health and wellness- there are some vitamins/supplements perfectly tailored for your hair and nails! We’re also loving these from HUM!
Au Natural… Kinda
If you’re like me and have been in what seems like an endless cycle of gel manicures- this is me telling you to take a break! Let your nails breathe. Try to stick to a clear polish, but if you must have color- use a polish that’s 7-free. Basically, it’s a formula that’s cut out some of the bad toxic chemicals that a typical polish might have! This one by J.Hannah is a gorgeous color that’s good for your digits!
How do you guys take care of your nails? Let me know in the comments below and have a great day!

Great ideas, I’m horrible at using dish gloves! Thank goodness for dishwashers and modern-day husbands! haha

I have terrible cuticles, so I have to regularly cut them back and make sure I use a good oil on them each night to keep them moisturized. I constantly moisturize them throughout the day as well.

That Burt’s Bee cuticle cream is one of my favorites! And yes, I totally agree that we often overlook our nails, especially when we don’t use gloves! 🙂 <3 Thank you so much for sharing all of these great comments!

Apply a hand cream before you put on the rubber gloves, that gives you a hand mask while being productive!

Great tips.. my manicurist also told me the same, not to cut my cuticles too much and for a year now they improved a LOT and also not to cut the nails on the side and just file them if they were growing into the cuticles .. not cutting them for a year allowed them to grow properly and the nail to look healthier.. on a side note, EXFOLIATING the hands once a week also makes it healthier and absorbs the lotions better (not -nails related but for the overall wellness of the hands)
Absolutely love it!

Really interesting, I have to admit that I don’t have time enough for this kind of treatment even when I can do it by myself, but I know I have to take care of my nails, they need it like the rest of the body. I need desperately the lemon butter cuticle cream by Burt’s Bees. I love the brand, is very natural, all the products of my baby care are from it.
