Just a few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of hanging out with the incredible Violet Grey team at their flagship store on Melrose Place. I’ve been a huge Violet Grey fan for as long as I can remember, so being able to hang out with the team and get my Old Hollywood Glamour makeover approved by the Violet Code was totally surreal! As I was there, I naturally asked as many makeup and skincare questions as I possibly could, so I wanted to share with you all what I learned getting ready with Violet Grey:
1. Always Prep Your Skin
Before starting my look, my amazing makeup artist for the day, Nile, talked to me about how important it is to prep skin before makeup. She used the Sisley Express Flower Gel Mask while applying my eyeshadow to give my skin a quick boost of moisture and to regenerate my skin. She also told me that moisturizers are great to use as primers. She said that using lightweight but hydrating skincare gives your face the best finish. After that, she used the Dr. Sturm Face Cream (pre-makeup) for a dewy application.
2. Use the Right Tools
As you guys know, I always use my fingers to apply my makeup even though I know I shouldn’t. Nile told me that the perfect tools = the perfect application, and after she was done with my look I could see why! She said that brushes should be catered to your facial structure.
She used the Beauty Blender (like this one) for all over application but then contoured my face with the Bobbi Brown Eye Blender Brush. Another must-have is the Utowa Round Face Brush 27. It’s a round brush that can also be used flat on the sides, so it’s like 3-in-1!
3. Don’t Be Afraid of a Smoky Eye & Red Lip
It feels like a total makeup faux-pas, but you really shouldn’t be afraid of doing a smoky eye with a red lip! Though it’s always safe to pick one or the other (either focusing on your eyes or a lip) sometimes taking a risk can totally pay off. The trick is to use warm and bronzy tones to bring up the intensity on the eyes and bringing it together with a statement lip.
What do you guys think of my Old Hollywood Glamour Look? Let me know in the comments below!
