For those of you that have been following me for a while now know how obsessed I am with taking care of my skin. Since flying is the #1 way to age your skin (aside from sun-tanning) and I travel quite a bit, it’s really important that I’m diligent with my in-flight skin regimen. More often than not, I’ll take a red eye flight to save me a day to spend with my family. That also means that I have to be ready to work right when I land and hit the ground running. So today, I’m going to show you through my tried and true in air routine. Everything is travel-friendly and can fit perfectly into a little pouch to throw into your carry-on.
I’ve also figured out that when you take international flights or any red-eye flight, that going about your usual routine as if you were at home in your own bathroom is great to trick your body into getting ready for a night’s sleep. And, if you remember from this video here, my in-flight beauty routine can be as simple as taking off my makeup and putting on some oil and moisturizer or as in-depth as using my Clarisonic and doing a full-on routine.
Step 1. Wipe
I like to immediately wipe off my makeup with these wipes (especially during a longer flight) when I’m seated. Wearing makeup not only clogs your pores but it’s really harmful to your skin. Sometimes, the airline will provide you with a hot towel if you ask them nicely, so I like to wipe off my makeup and let the steam open up my pores before I start my skin care routine.
Step 2. Cleanse
Sometimes I skip this step if I’m not wearing any makeup at all but even if I’m wearing sunblock, I’ll use this Exfolikate cleanser. I love this one because particularly and have been using the full sized one at home. It really gets all the gunk out of your pores and keeps your skin feeling fresh.
Step 3. Clarisonic
If I hop onto a fight right after an event, I’m usually wearing a lot of makeup and will use my travel sized Clarisonic to get that deep cleanse. Whenever I fly, I pretend the airplane bathroom is like my own bathroom. I usually take off my makeup with a wipe (like these), but sometimes I use my Clarisonic to get a really good deep clean. Anytime I use it, I’m always so amazed at how much makeup it gets off- even if I’ve already used the wipes! This Clarisonic is great because it’s much smaller than the regular one so it travels easily.
Step 4. Thermal Spray
I use many types of face mists, but I use this Avene one in particular because it’s very clean without any fragrance. Any face mist works really well to help re-hydrate after you cleanse your face. It’s a great way to soothe your skin.

I’ve been using this Darphin cream religiously! It’s an absolute in-flight beauty essential that keeps my skin firm and looking super radiant!
Step 6: Eye and Lip Contour Cream
I love that this item is a 2-in-1 masterpiece! It’s a cream that’s great for your eyes, but also for your lips. It manages to hydrate the contours of your lips which can tend to get really dry during flights.
Step 7: Layer an oil
I love using this Darphin oil after my moisturizer. I know it’s a bit overwhelming to go through all of these steps but my #1 recommendation is to cleanse your face and use this oil. It’s like a spa in a bottle. For those of you that don’t know, an oil acts as a moisturizer and what I love about this Darphin oil is that it keeps your skin moisturized. I prefer using this oil when flying because the texture is a bit thicker.
Step 8. Sleeping Mask
This is an extra step to take if you really want to maximize your flight time. Add a water sleeping mask on top of everything after you’re done. Although I love masks, wearing a sheet mask on a plane is not recommended because it might disturb your fellow passengers. Again, if these are just too many steps, just cleanse your face off and use a water sleeping mask and call it a day. A sleeping mask is 10x more hydrating than a regular moisturizer.
Pro Tip: take samples of beauty products on the plane, especially if you know you already love the product. I have the sample version of this Laneige sleeping mask which I love for the plane! If you don’t have any samples of your full-size products, pick up some travel jars to put your products in!
Step 9. Hand Cream
When you fly, your skin gets dry EVERYWHERE, and that includes your hands and feet! I use compression socks when I fly and I put them over my moisturized hands and feet. I’m personally obsessed with this Aerin rose hand cream because I a. love all things Aerin and b. it smells like roses while moisturizing you.
Step 10. Dr. Jart+ Contour Shaper
I’ve been using this contour shaper for a while now. I find it very therapeutic for my skin and I feel like it also helps drain my lymph nodes. When I use it, I really focus it on my chin area and I think it’s helped me prevent a tech-neck. Though this doesn’t have instant results, it’s definitely preventative and I find it totally relaxing!
Step 11. Ouai Dry Shampoo
I like to use this right before I get off the plane to give my hair an instant refresh. It smells fantastic and my hair instantly has more volume and bounce when I use it! Dry shampoo is a 100% in-flight essential.
I know this seems like a lot, but the key thing is to know the purpose of each item and you’ll be a pro in no time! So what are your in-flight beauty essentials? I want to know! Leave a comment down below and tell me what you bring when you travel!

I wanted to pack my mini 50ml Avene face mist on my flight to Paris, but my boyfriend said it would be discarded at security because it is pressurized with nitrogen (noted on the back of the bottle) 🙁 Have you flown with it many times?
