I’ve been nurturing my business for so long that it feels like it’s my first baby! I’m so blessed to live in a time where a dream or passion can eventually become a career, whereas 20 years ago I might not have been able to have the career that I have now! Something that people often misconceive is that this life is super glamorous. But honestly it’s a lot of hard work and sweat! I can’t just clock out at the end of the day because I’m constantly brainstorming ideas for my blog and YouTube channel. I live it and breathe it and I wouldn’t have it any other way! When you’re truly living for your passion you never know where it might take you!
I’ve had a lot of big milestones in my career that have pushed me to dream bigger and never stop growing my business. One of the most memorable moments of my career was interviewing Hilary Clinton. To meet someone of that caliber and to interview her was such an honor. I love meeting working mothers because it inspires me to keep pushing not just for myself and my readers, but for Chloe as well!
It’s important to be constantly evolving, and I’m very happy that in addition to fashion, I can share with you all my interests in beauty and lifestyle. In the future, I hope to still have a site that provides inspiration, tips and amazing editorials for all my readers. But trust me, it’s not easy pushing yourself every single day. So today I’m sharing with you all a few of my tips or #BossNotes that I’ve followed in my career that’s taken me this far!
1. Have ‘Me’ Time
I like to work out in the morning. It not only keeps me in shape but it’s great ‘me’ time. I get most of my ideas and inspirations when I work out because this is when I really get to meditate and focus. This time allows me to really visualize how I want my day to look like. I always leave my workouts feeling accomplished, inspired and ready to start my day!
2. Take it One Day at a Time
We all love to set those big goals and dream big, but there are small accomplishments that happen every day. I like to measure my success by the little things, like being able to get home in time to spend some quiet time with Chloe and to put her to bed. Don’t discount the small things because they’re very meaningful! I have my checklist of things I need to do immediately, but I also keep the bigger goals in mind. For me, the small daily goals are just as important, if not more important, than the bigger picture. Not to mention, it’s the small things that make up the bigger picture.
3. Unplug
I constantly struggle with trying to balance work and mom life. It’s never really a perfect harmony, but I do the best I can. When I get home at the end of a work day, I make it a priority to completely unplug. It’s really important for me to give my 100 percent to everything I do and spending time with Chlo Chlo is no different. Taking time to check out is actually a great way to not get burnt out. Although it’s inevitable and completely normal, you should definitely know your limits. Being able to check out of social media on the weekends and taking the time to relax and rejuvenate with my family motivates me to work even harder the next week!
4. Network
If you’re trying to get your blog off the ground, I can’t stress how important networking is. When I first started out, I tried to meet as many people within the industry as I could. The relationships that I had developed eventually led to some amazing collaborations. Create your own opportunities! From other influencers to brands and even platforms, collaborating is an amazing way to grow your business. As much as I love fashion, I’ve always been a bit of a beauty buff! Because I’ve been a long time reader and fan, I love collaborating with Byrdie because I can reach a whole new audience. I love working with them to create stories that are interesting and educational and compelling. I really truly believe that beauty isn’t just skin-deep, it comes from the inside out! And I love that Byrdie stands with that as well!
5. Believe in Yourself
I think I spent most of my 20’s worrying and comparing myself to others. If I could jump in a time machine and give my 20 something-year-old self some advice, it would be to not worry so much! I remember comparing myself to others and wishing I had this or that, and honestly it was exhausting. I now know that everyone has their own unique journey and their own time and place for things. There’s not just one way that defines how you can make it. Now that I’m where I’m at, worrying was just unnecessary noise for me. It’s much more fruitful to be confident in your journey, no matter where you are.
6. Have a Boss Look
Having an outfit or a particular style of piece that you feel confident in can make all the difference. For me, it’s wide-leg pants. I recently went shopping for a fresh pair for spring and ended up finding this entire outfit at Westfield, including these great trousers by Ann Taylor make me feel tall and powerful. I like to wear simple and classic blouses when I wear wide leg trousers to balance out the look. This blouse from BCBG is great because of its clean lines. I love the mandarin style collar too! Nude heels, like these from Tory Burch are a great work option and they go with everything. Nude heels are a great work option and they go with everything! I finished off the look with this amazing blazer from Nordstrom. Once you find a look that works for you, stick with it!
This weekend I’ll be at Westfield Valley Fair with WhoWhatWear for the #BossNotes Leading in Style event, so if you live in the area, come by and say hi! I’ll be discussing everything from my career to how I balance it all with my family on a panel with some other really amazing women. Be sure to RSVP here! I would love to meet you all. Have a great day!

Hey Chriselle,
Thank you so much for sharing such personal tips that feel very applicable, and for also being well rounded in the focus (e.g. remembering to unplug).
If you had one tip for your 20 or so year old self on networking, what would it be? Thank you!.
Kind Regards,

This is such an inspirational post. As a creative person, I often have my struggles and sometimes, that can be extremely tough. However, your post has encouraged me to keep doing my best, and that’ll lead me to success in the near future. I also love your look nowadays! I’m slowly finding myself into the #bossbabe look and I find it amazing, both on the inside and the outside. Thanks again, Chriselle. 🙂

Such an interesting post. As someone who is a student and then works on a blog and as a freelance writer, I can resonate with this piece, especially with the idea of trying to unplug and finding me time – it can be tempted to just be doing, doing, doing all the time – funnily enough the gym is also a big ‘me time’ place for me as well 🙂 Also love the culottes, that outfit is killer on her!

Number 2 and 5 is something I definitely struggle with. I always give myself big goals and when it’s not accomplished by the end of the day, I get discouraged and want to give up. Gotta keep telling myself that every effort counts, that I’m one step closer to my goal, and that “Rome wasn’t built in a day”. 🙂

Exactly! Just take it one day at a time, and don’t ever be too hard on yourself! xo

Loved reading this inspirational post, Chriselle <3 I think a lot of times, people forget that living your dream is actually a lot of hard work, and it takes so much effort and time to build something like this. I'm really thankful for your post because you remind us of that 🙂 And of course, congrats again on interviewing Hilary! Definitely a milestone moment indeed!

I love your advice on appreciating small accomplishments everyday. Especially as a blogger, it can be tempting to want big things to happen in your career right away. I like to consider something as simple as making my husband dinner a huge accomplishment in my day 🙂

Great post but your links don’t take you to the actual items…. they just take you the Westfield site. It would be great if the links could be fixed so we can see exactly which jacket/pants/etc. you wore or were referring to!

Thank you for this article! I started my blog 1.5 years ago about my greatest passion – knitwear. I try to stay consistent and post at least three times a week and it is a lot of work indeed! Creating the garments, taking notes, writing patterns, taking photos, editing photos, doing the interviews with the knitwear designers – it does become overwhelming, especially with a day job… I always appreciate how much work goes into your blog!
Hi Alina! That’s so incredible! xo

Thanks for the advice! One thing I need to work on is networking! As a college student and newer blogger, I feel as thought it is harder to network with other bloggers that are more established. Do you have any advice on how I should network?
