Hey guys! It’s Hannah back on the blog today to share one of my newest discoveries: bulletproof coffee.
If you don’t know what bulletproof coffee is, according to its creator, it’s a “high-performance drink that has a massive impact on your energy and cognitive function.” Basically, a cup of coffee transformed with a few ingredients to make it ‘super coffee’.
Bulletproof coffee is literally marketed as a way to forgo breakfast and stay full and focused. When I first heard of it, it seemed like it was too good to be true. Put butter in your coffee and suddenly you’ll be full all morning? Okay, sure.
But after hearing about it from several people and seeing it pop up all over social media, I figured why not? I did a lot of research about it and found that there are a lot of different ways to make it- but they all come down to the same few things: a cup of coffee, unsalted butter, protein powder or coconut oil and a blender.
Easy enough, right? I gathered all the components (I swapped out a blender for a milk frother– a lot of places online suggested this for easier cleanup) and gave it a shot.
The recipe I used is as follows:
Coffee
2 tbsp unsalted butter
1-2 tbsp Coconut Oil
Simple enough right?
I started with the coconut oil and butter already in my coffee mug, then filled up the mug with coffee half way before I started in with the milk frother. As it was ‘frothing’ I poured in the rest of my coffee and voilà- all done!
It tastes… well… different. Not a bad different! Just not the same.
I started drinking coffee when I was in middle school. Of course, back then, it was more milk and sugar than it was coffee, and I was only allowed to drink a little cup. Now, I drink it black and I knock it back as easy as water without batting an eye.
So to have coffee that tasted different was a very weird experience for me. The only way I can explain it is that it tasted rich… does that make sense?
But guess what you guys? It worked. I wasn’t super full, but I also wasn’t hungry. I was that perfect in-between that kept me satisfied until around 12 pm! I did every other day for about a week, with the same results.
So do you guys drink bullet proof coffee? What are your thoughts? Let me know in the comments below and I’ll see you guys next week!

I started drinking coffee with fat for a similar reason: no time in the morning, and no breaks for food. I skipped the butter and just added coconut oil (and sometimes collagen, makes the coffee very creamy). I work as a teacher and starting from 7:30 until 13:30 at least I have no breaks to eat something, so I take the coffee to work and drink it when I am getting hungry. For me it works well, although I also always have overnight oats me, just in case I get really hungry.
I tried it once and wasn’t crazy about it. But I can see how it would work considering fat helps satiate hunger cravings. And who doesn’t love butter?

I mean, I do love butter. Like I said it wasn’t my favorite thing in the world, but it did help curb my appetite. (I think I like regular coffee better, though! lol) x Hannah
