As I’ve said before, I really love that my knowledge of skincare is constantly evolving. Not too long ago I discovered that there’s a proper way to be layering your skincare (read my post about it here) and before that, I learned that anti-pollution drops are a thing!
Ever since these discoveries, I’ve been on a skincare research kick. With summer coming up, I know that I’ll be spending a lot of time in the sun- so I started looking into the best ways to keep my skin refreshed and moisturized when I stumbled upon this article.
Did you guys know that there’s a difference between having dry skin and having dehydrated skin?
Essentially, dry skin needs oil and dehydrated skin needs water. Two very different solutions for two very different skin needs. But how can you tell if your skin is dry or dehydrated?
If you’ve got dry skin…
… you’ve probably got a lot of flaking and rough patches.
If you’ve got dehydrated skin…
… you face probably feels tight and looks dull even if you’ve used moisturizer. This usually happens seasonally.
For Dry Skin
+ Use an oil-based cleanser, I like this one and this one! The whole point is to add back in the oils that your skin can’t produce itself.
+ Then, add a rich oil to your routine. This one and this one are some of my favorites and instantly leave my skin feeling rejuvenated.
For Dehydrated Skin
+ I know it sounds redundant, but it really doesn’t need that much explanation: drink a lot of water!
+ Look for serums that contain hyaluronic acid and collagen to bring your skin back to life. I swear by this HA serum!
To read more about dry vs. dehydrated skin, be sure to check out these articles here and here. To shop some of my favorite moisturizing and hydrating skincare products, be sure to check out the widget below! Don’t leave your skin feeling thirsty this summer.
Have a great Monday!

Very helpful post – based on what you’ve discussed I apparently have dehydrated skin. I’m always looking for products with hyaluronic acid in them, so I guess I’m on the right track!

This post came right about time for me.
I have been suffering a lot lately from dry skin and I honestly feel that I look older than I really am. I’ll star with the recommendations you just post. I hope those work for me 😪
Thanks again. Cheers 💜

Thank you fro sharing all of these skin care products and doing research on the difference between dry and dehydrated skin.
Great post, and stunning photos. I didn’t actually think about that there would be a difference between dry and dehydrated skin, but now that I read this it makes perfect sense!
I noticed to featured the Avene Hydrance Optimale, it’s one of my favourites too, but did you know they do the same formula with an SPF20? Perfect for everyday wear and really kind to your skin, it doesn’t block your pores like some SPF face creams so is ideal!

completely true!I went to a dermatologyst, and with some device she measured that I have oily skin, but am still dehydrated.
I think i really have a dehydrated skin coz even i put moisturizer on my face, still looks super dull and looks tight and dry.
I have a big pores on my face and can see fine lines are already developing because of not enough water on my skin. 🙁

Thank you for doing the research for us! I literally want to pick up all the products you’ve shown (except Tatcha – I have their products and am obsessed with their line!). The flash patch looks interesting! The last time I used a lip sheet mask my mouth was on fire! Will need to look into this though 🙂

OMG! Is this for real?
There are so many things that we just gloss over when it comes to skincare and we don’t take a second glance to really see where what is needed!
This was very informative!
