I’m always talking about my skincare routine and what products I use, even the products I use when I’m on the plane! But the most important step for my skincare routine is to ALWAYS take my makeup off. No matter how tired I am, how much I’ve had to drink, or how much I just want to crawl into bed. It’s an extra step but I know I’d kick myself in the morning if I didn’t do it! To ensure that I get ever single bit of makeup off my skin and out of my pores, I follow four simple steps:
1. Eye Makeup Remover
The first step is to take off your eye and lip makeup because it’s the most stubborn to come off. I emptied these Kleenex ones completely you might have seen it in the video HERE. They’re super gentle and really get the job done!
2. Oil Cleanser
Then, I always ALWAYS cleanse with an oil cleanser. Oil cleansers have a reputation for being ‘bad’ but they’re just misunderstood! If you have oily skin, oil cleansers are actually good for you (do not be afraid of them)! It’s a great way to get rid of sweat that builds up overnight or during the day (which is actually the cause of acne). DO NOT add water to your oil. Literally take the oil from the bottle to your hand and then to your face. After thoroughly massaging onto your face THEN you take the water and wipe it down. The oil really helps to break down the makeup on your skin.
3. Charcoal Cleanser
After washing your face with an oil cleanser, then it’s time to bring in your regular cleanser. I prefer to use a water-based cleanser. This Biore one I found at the drugstore as seen is this video here and I’ve been using it pretty much every day since! It’s very light and you can feel the impurities being drawn out of your skin.
4. Cleansing Water
To finish off, I like to use a cleansing water. It’s pretty much a fancy water that both tone and help make sure all of the impurities are out of your skin that your cleanser might have missed. This one by Caudalie is probably the only one I’ve ever used made with chamomile so it’s super soothing for your skin. I squeeze the product onto a pad or cotton wipe then gently rub it onto my skin. It’s amazing how much leftover dirt and makeup you see on the pad!
There you go! Four super simple steps that give me a clean pallet to continue on with my skincare routine. What do you guys use to take off your makeup? Let me know in the comments below!

I loveee that you incorporated the importance of an oil cleanser. Most people think that it’ll make them more oily, but once I switched from micellar water to cleansing oil, my skin got so much softer and better!!
Great products featured here. I think I may do a similar post in the future – my routine has a few more steps than yours lol I like to use wipes 1st and then go in with all those, and instead of a cleansing water I use a mild face wash after a mud cleanser. xo, Alisha Ricki | Life(Style) &Travel,
Thank you for sharing this routine with us.
By now I prefer to use natural simply products.
I love to use coconut oil as a first step.
Then I wash my face with a gentle cleanser from Paï which is really a good brand for sensitive skin, I love the orange rosehip oil and mix it with my night cream treatment.
I tone with a french organic rose water.
Joel Ciocco is a must have brand in Paris, but for me it wasn’t good.
You should have a look at two website Oh my cream and Mademoiselle bio which sale natural skincare products that french women like very much.
I’m really obsessed with caudalie micellar water <3

Products from Joelle Ciocco are amaizing to remove makeup and clean your skin. She is well know as the “skin pope” in France; Next time you come to Paris you should definitely try them if not sold in the US. xoxo
Totally agree with the oil cleanser but the charcoal cleanser…How does one “feel” impurities getting extracted out of the skin. Especially for a product that will only sit on the skin for 1-2min. 🤔
Agreed! No matter how tired I am, I never, ever skip out on my makeup removal routine because it’s essential to healthy, beautiful skin! I’ve wanted to try cleansing water for awhile now, but I’m just not too sure how effective it is. Thank you so much for sharing sharing such great finds!

I love using an oil cleanser! It’s really a game changer when it comes to getting a deep clean feeling. I need to try that cleansing water!

Currently I have been using the LUSH Ultrabland Facial Cleanser. It removes all my makeup and when I am done, it locks in all the moisture, which is great for the wintertime. I also love the Milky Jelly Cleanser from Glossier. It’s great at removing all of my makeup. I’m going to have to try an oil cleanser now that I know it’s good for oily skin as well.
I use an oil cleanser that I get from Body Shop and it’s amazing! I love that I literally rub my eyes with in to get everything off. Need to try the charcoal stuff, heard it’s amazing! x

Such a great cleansing routine! You are so right by the way about making sure you take your make up off – it can seem so tiring and annoying after a night out but I always feel so horrible in the morning if I haven’t done it so I make it a point to never ever sleep with my make up on! Plus that one simple change has made such improvements to my skin!
All the products you use sounds o fab – I must try a charcoal cleanser! In terms of eye make up removers, the Neals Yard one is AMAZING! It takes everything off so fast!
