9 Podcasts You Need to Know

Today I’ll be sharing with you guys the podcast post that I mentioned I’d do back in my how to balance your life post! I sit in a lot of traffic on a daily basis, especially since I make the commute from Manhattan Beach to Downtown LA. And trust me … when you get to sit in that much traffic you start looking for ways to make time go by faster. I like listening to podcasts when I’m driving because it’s a time that I can use to feed my brain and for personal growth. There are so many different podcasts out there, but I listen to a variety of shows that are both inspiring and entertaining! Here is my list of 9 podcasts that you need in your life!

1. Radiolab

Radiolab does such an amazing job of storytelling! All of their shows are super well produced and I love all the stories that they tell on this station. Recently I just listened to their story on K-pop and I learned even more about this crazy phenomenon in Korea. It was entertaining and I was totally hooked listening to this while I was driving home. There was also an episode on racism in debate that really moved me. I know nothing about debate, so listening to this episode really taught me something new as well as made me aware of social issues that I wasn’t informed on. It raised questions that I otherwise wouldn’t have thought about. That’s why I love Radiolab. The variety of topics really stimulates your brain in different ways! I won’t spoil it for you guys, but you definitely need Radiolab in your life!

2. Dear Sugar

I try to never miss an episode of Dear Sugar. They give advice and opinions on everything from love, sex, and relationships to just life in general. It’s always raw and honest. I always feel like I’m walking out of a therapy session when I finish an episode of this podcast! It’s like always having a close friend who is loving but can be brutally honest with me right there in my pocket.

3. Stuff Mom Never Told You

These are short 30-minute podcasts that focus on women’s issues. I love how they can take such serious topics and talk about them in a to-the-point, witty and objective way. This podcast touches on everything from infertility to women in Hollywood and I always feel enlightened after listening to Stuff Mom Never Told You. I can honestly say I learn something new everytime I listen!

4. This American Life

This American Life is filled with unique storytelling with smart and creative themes. Many times I find myself completely immersed in these stories. I laugh, I cry, and I’m always touched. It’s the one podcast that I feel is worth listening to every time. Each week there’s a new topic so I love how they always change it up. There’s tons of diversity within the stories and it’s basically like listening to a “movie for radio.”

5. Serial

This is the one podcast I listen to with Allen, it’s the activity we do together when we are winding down for the day. This podcast is, in my opinion, a brilliant piece of work. It’s as if I’m reading a book that I can’t put down! I won’t spoil the details on here but just to give you a quick run down it’s about a journalist who looking at an old murder case and is speaking to the people that were involved one way or another. This murder mystery brings the listener along with the journalist to make sense of what may have actually happened. We try to listen every night … now if only Allen would stop falling asleep in the middle of the episodes! It’s torture, but I have to wait for him before moving on to the next episode!

6. The Style Scout

This podcast is like listening to a fashion blog! Episodes of The Style Scout have insider interviews from the stylish people who rule the worlds of fashion, beauty, home, food. I also had the honor of being a guest on this show where I got the chance to talk about balancing out my career and motherhood. It hasn’t been an easy journey but I’m glad I could share my story with others and how I’ve been able to adapt my personal style in this new role of mine.

7. Wear Your Dreams

Wear Your Dreams is all about amazing women who turned their passions into their career. Created by Alice Oluyitan, the woman behind the successful GBEMI brand, this podcast is filled with motivation, inspiration, and great advice. Whenever I’m having a tough day, I’ll listen to an episode of this and I’ll be ready to take on the world!

This podcast speaks for itself! The woman behind this podcast, Amy, is a marketing whiz. Episodes of Online Marketing Made Easy are a must for anyone in the marketing game. She has thorough and detailed explanations and tips to help you bring your marketing to the next level!

9. #GirlBoss Radio

The Queen of #GirlBosses herself, Sofia Amoruso herself is the face behind this podcast. Every episode the Nasty Gal founder brings on guests to talk about their mark in their respective fields. From guests such as Courtney Love to Grace Helbig, this podcast never fails to inspire me. All of the episodes are very laid back and easy to listen to, it’s like sitting in on a conversation between friends!

10. Open Account

This podcast is done by one of my dear friends, Suchin and it’s all ab0ut something that’s not talked about enough: money! A person’s relationship with money can be complicated and Open Account addresses how people make it, how the spend it, how they can lose it and how they live with it! It’s inspiring, uplifting and most of all practical! Be sure to give it a listen.
