I feel like this year is the year of the Frenchie. Almost every fashion girl that I know has a French bulldog! I got Mignon two and a half years ago and I have been so happy with him ever since! So for all my readers who are thinking of getting a Frenchie, here are 5 things you need to know about owning a french bulldog!
1. Frenchies are perfect city dogs since they do well in small spaces! Pretty much everyone I know in NY has a frenchie. Frenchies aren’t incredibly active dogs so they don’t need a big yard or anything to run in. They’re very well mannered which makes them the perfect dog for a smaller space!
2. Another reason why they’re great city dogs is because you don’t really need to take them out on walks. (Frenchies overheat very quickly.) You guys might remember seeing photos of me, Mignon, and Allen out on walks before we had Chloe on instagram.. but in truth, we wouldn’t take him out for a marathon or anything, just a short walk around the block! And when we do take him out, its around sunset, when it’s cooler in the day. (And let’s face it, with this LA heat, even I can’t handle being outside!)
3. Frenchies have very quirky personalities so it’s really interesting to see how they grow up and the habits that they develop! But one thing that I never told you guys about about is that Mignon got attacked by a pitbull when he was a puppy. I remember running down the street screaming my head off because this pitbull had Mignon in his mouth!!! Because of this trauma, Mignon does get scared a lot (he’s scared of trash bags hah). On the whole though, he does get a little bit more aggressive and is more temperamental than the average bulldog. Which is why we had to give Captain away because they were fighting so much.. However, once he lets his guard down, he is the sweetest little thing. They can be very stubborn dogs! Mignon definitely has a personality, and Allen and I were pretty nervous about having a dog and a new baby, but surprisingly, Mignon loves snuggling with Chloe and is extremely protective of his little sister! It’s the cutest thing since they are about the same size! (Follow their adventures on my snapchat @chrisellelim)
4. French bull dogs are infamous for having gas problems, but you get used to it after a while and it’s nothing a few candles can’t fix. Plus, having a well balanced diet helps tremendously! Frenchies also have allergies so you have to be careful what to feed them. We feed Mignon dog raw meat because it’s easier to digest.
5. Even though Frenchies are short haired dogs, they actually shed a surprisingly large amount of hair. Luckily my floors are dark so I can’t really see how much he really sheds, and we sweep once a week. But this is something to consider if you have white carpet and you’re going to get a dark frenchie like Mignon!
In short, having a Frenchie is basically the best thing ever! I love love Mignon and I can’t imagine how my life would be without him! Before Allen and I had Chloe, Mignon was our little baby and we had so much fun playing with him after work. Even with Chloe now, it just makes me so happy to see them getting along and playing with each other.
Would you guys ever get a Frenchie? & for those of you that have a Frenchie, share with me your experiences in the comments below!

I adopted my first frenchie 1 week ago, I live alone in an apartment in a small town in WV and i was very hesitant about having a dog again until I read your story ♡ I suffer from depression and have been having a hard time since my divorce, daughter leaving for college, ect….but now I have a smile i cannot hide!
Archie has became my bf! He has stolen my heart in just one week!♡ He is so well behaved, easy to potty train and has a personality that I can’t describe lol and he loves our evening walks🌝
I want to thank you for all the information you provided, it made my decision much easier & I’m positive I made the right choice!
Again Ty!
I have a pit mix and it was attached by a french bulldog. Dog attacks could happen to any breeds, and the owners are often the culprit. All dogs need exercise, discipline, and then affection – in that order. With so many homeless pets in U.S. , please consider adopting. There are several french bulldog rescue groups out there.
I love French bulldogs but always hesitant when it comes to actually adopt one, well I’m quite scared of dogs (but I find them cute) scared that the dog will bite or stuff LOL
However, when I saw your snapchats, when Mignon cuddles Chloe, oh my, that is the sweetest thing ever also when you said Mignon is protective toward Chloe, uh I want one so bad immediately. I would love to see more of Mignon and Chloe 🙂 xx
Such a cutie! http://thefervour.com

I don’t really like the french bulldog very much but it’s nice to get more info on them! Thanks!

I must say that my Frenchie is scared of trash bags and she has never been attacked (I’ve had her since she was a puppy). She snorts and makes the craziest noises. I agree with you completely when you say they have quirky personalities. That is an understatement. They are truly great apartment dogs and amazing companions(Personable/friendly). Very stubborn to train. Like with all puppies though they need to be excercised to wear off their abnormal amounts of energy. I’m a frenchie lover and advocate for anyone who is thinking of owning one.
oh how funny! thanks for your input, Briana! xx Chriselle
Frenchies are so cute but are they noisy? Lots of small dogs I’ve seen are very noisy, or they freak out very easily like chihuahuas, what about French bulldogs?

Hi Love this post and Im so glad I saw it❤️ We have a brindle frenchie named Lulu and she sounds exactly like your. So funny!! We want to get another for our nine year because her big sis is leaving off to school in August. We thought maybe a puppy would fill the space in her heat from missing her sister. I have been looking on line but I haven’t found one yet. I’m set on a black and white one so it may take time to find one. Do you know of a good breeder?? If so would you let me know where I can contact them. Thank you❤️ P.S another good point about Frenchies is that they can’t swim. They will drown because there chest is so big and their legs are so short..
I love this! I have an English Bulldog, which is like the cousin to the Frenchie, and I deal with a lot of the same things you’re talking about. They all have such great personalities, and are great around people and kids, I couldn’t imagine having another kind of dog!
hi Tashsa! I’m glad you liked the post! xx Chriselle
We love our frenchie! They also do get a little territorial with their owners. When we introduced our new dog our frenchie would offer “steam roll” her out of the way when she would get close to us. You have to teach them how to share!
oh how funny! glad you liked the post Brittany! xx Chriselle
I think certain breeds of dogs are more popular among fashion folk, take frenchies, they are so damn cute! The eyes are mesmerizing))
I have a mittelschnauzer and the temperament has been an issue for like 6 years lol. Stubborn. Shedding lots. Super independent and a runaway by nature. Always up to ruining my shoes, the carpet, the wallpaper, the door. All in all a badass guy but I still love him no matter what<3
yup, gotta love your pups! glad you liked the post, love! xx Chriselle
Loving your little pup! 🙂 So adorable!
And of course, gorgeous photos as always! <3

Lovely pictures!
We have a frenchie for some time now, she just turned 9 and we have had her since pup. They are amazing dogs! Definitely a trend now indeed, we hardly saw them when we got ours but now they seem to be everywhere. Somethings to add to your piece:
– Frenchies are LOUD in everything, it’s hilarious
– Be aware they frenchies do come with some health issues that other dogs might not have. They have short stumpy bodies and a short nose which can come with some complications. This also means that frenchies can be quite expensive in vet costs. But of course, nothing beats their personalities. I would definitely advise to get them from a real breeder though that you can trust and has all the right paperwork.
What I don’t really agree on is that they ‘don’t really need walks’. Every dog needs regular walks, to explore, sniff around and do doglike things. Our frenchie becomes quite grumpy if we haven’t taken her out so we walk her a few times a day. On hot days these are only short walks, but just enough to get her energy out. On cooler days they can be long walks, she loves the beach for example.
Great article though, so lovely to see a fellow frenchie lover 🙂
love your tips, Elize! and I agree about the noise factor!! hahaha xx Chriselle
Great things to know!
