It's Time To Add Some Color to Your Wardrobe

Why is it that color’s always a hot topic in fashion?

Don’t get me wrong, I’ll always end up naturally gravitating towards neutrals… in fact, the bulk of my wardrobe consists of neutrals! However, adding a little pop of color here and there is usually the perfect finishing touch. Of course, if you normally wear all black, the idea of suddenly wearing a head-to-toe yellow outfit probably sounds absurd and almost scary. That’s why I want to share my 4 tips for adding a little color to your look. Start with baby steps and maybe by the end of the summer you’ll be rocking color on the regular!

Keep scrolling to check out my tips on being comfortable wearing color.

1. Establish Your New Neutrals

Picture your usual neutral color palette in your head. Is it all black? Black and white? Black, white, grey, and maybe mixed in with some navy or tan? Maybe it’s shades of tan and white? Everyone has their own neutrals that their wardrobe lives within and my advice would be to try and redefine your neutrals and maybe add in some new ones! Maybe a muted olive green or navy to break up the sea of black? Do you happen to only wear grey? Try adding in a warm tan color! Adding color doesn’t HAVE to mean a bright purple or yellow.

2. Start Small

What’s the easiest, least expensive and least daunting way to inject some color into your life, you ask? Beauty, of course! A gorgeous coral lipstick is just what you need to brighten up your look come springtime! Or maybe you’re open to try a gorgeous lilac nail polish like this one? If you’re feeling a little adventurous, then try wearing a colored eyeliner like this one here. It’s a great way to add a fun and subtle hint of color to an otherwise everyday look.

3. Accessorize

The next step is to work in some color into your accessories. Think: shoes, bags, scarfs, belts and the like. I find that when shopping for colored accessories, the simpler the silhouette the better. Especially if you’re wanting to add color in baby steps. Something like a simple clutch or a sleek pump is a great way to get a classic piece that will compliment your entire wardrobe!

4. Add Color via Prints

So you’re ready to wear color but you don’t want to wear color head-to-toe? That’s where prints come in! An easy classic print is one of my go-to’s for spring/summer! Either a stripe, a small floral or polka-dots are all easy to swallow prints that can easily add in a pop of color. Think a floral dress like this one here or a polka dot slip-skirt like this one! Printed pieces that can be balanced with other neutral pieces or accessories are some of my favorite ways to incorporate color into my wardrobe.
