What Not to Wear When You're Pregnant

There’s no right or wrong way to dress. Pregnant or not.

That’s always been one of my favorite things about fashion- everything is open to interpretation and creativity! Since being pregnant, I’ve had to rethink a lot about the way I dress and the way I shop. You might remember this post here where I talked about how I’m dressing my bump this time around! So until baby #2 comes, here are some things you haven’t and WON’T see me in:

1.  Crop Tops

I’m all for showing off my baby bump, and I know some mamas who absolutely kill it in a crop top- but it’s just not for me. I think there are so many other ways to flaunt your bump, but besides a sports bra or a bikini- you’ll probably never see me in a crop top with my big ol’ belly- but to each their own! Instead, I’ve been rocking body-con dresses like this one!

2. Non- Stretch Jeans

You guys know how much I miss wearing jeans. I was able to pull them off for the first trimester, but starting with my second trimester, I wore a pair of maternity jeans and I was instantly reminded why I avoid wearing jeans while pregnant. If you’re pregnant in the wintertime and have to wear jeans/pants, make sure they’re SUPER stretchy! Or, just wear leggings! If you are in the market for maternity jeans, these by Paige have been great for me!

3. Busy Prints

I’m all for prints, and although I’m totally here for a few classic options, as I’ve gotten larger, it’s been harder for me to pull them off! People are already looking at my belly and I don’t want to draw any more attention to it. With my belly, polka dots become ovals, and stripes get super stretched! If you’re going to do a print, you have to be cautious about the type of print and the fabric they’re printed on!

4. Too Much Texture

Think: sequins, super fuzzy furry cardigans sweaters. Although I’ve seen some women pull off sequins during their pregnancy- I tried it once and immediately took the dress off because it felt super itchy and kind of reminded me of a disco ball! I feel the same way with super fuzzy sweaters. I love wearing them in the winter but I feel like it adds too much volume, and I don’t exactly want to look like a walking teddy bear!

5. Heels

Some mamas can do heels while pregnant and look like actual goddesses. However, I’ve been living in my flats. I’ll do a kitten heel every once and a while but even that feels like a struggle! There have been a few occasions that I’ve worn heels for a photo, but immediately kicked them off after, either switching back into flats or just walking around barefoot! At this point, it’s all about comfort for me. Luckily, there are tons of cute flats out there to choose from! You’ve probably seen me wearing these Chloé sneakers or these Reef slides all over my Instagram!

Like I said, one of my favorite parts about fashion is that it’s totally up for interpretation, so take this list with a grain of salt. Everyone and every pregnancy is different, so do what feels right for YOU and makes you feel your best.
