Beach Vacation Approved – The 5 Sunscreens I Took to Hawaii
Sunscreen comes in many different shapes, sizes, and formulas these days. It’s hard to know which one works best for you when there are so many options out there.
While I was ready to spend every moment I could soaking up the sun with the fam, I knew that I had to take extra precaution with sunscreen and didn’t want to risk not having any once we got there. I took a couple of SPF options and actually ended up using all of them at some point during our beach vacation.
So, between a great face mist with SPF, an easy to apply sunscreen stick for the girls, and a sensitive skin friendly mineral sunscreen- Chloe, Colette, Allen and I were all SPF’d up!
Keep scrolling to check out what I thought of each sunscreen I brought with me.
know I’ve preached about a good face mist a million times on the blog- but they’re seriously the best. What’s even better is if you can get one with SPF like this mist from Supergoop! It’s super refreshing, gives you an extra little layer of SPF 50, and smells great. Another reason this mist has been a go-to is how pretty the packaging is – it was designed in collaboration with the one and only Rebecca Taylor so it fits in with any beach bag. Though I wouldn’t recommend solely wearing this SPF by itself for a full day at the beach, it’s great to layer and refresh your SPF throughout the day and layer it on top of your face sunscreen. The only downside to this mist is that it stung my face a little bit when I used it, but I think that was only because I had already been out in the sun.
Speaking of face sunscreen, this mineral sunscreen from the amazing French brand Avéne is incredible. It’s super gentle, sensitive skin friendly, and is formulated with Titanium Dioxide and Zinc Oxide to provide broad spectrum UVA/UVB protection. It also comes in a tinted version which some of the girls on my team use all the time! The formula blends really easily, but with my combination type skin, I was weary about it clogging my pores.
I used this sunscreen every day while I was in Hawaii! It’s SPF 30, water-resistant, protects against UVA, UVB, and blue light, and it’s infused with antioxidants and aloe vera. It’s super hydrating, which is great when you’re spending all day in the sun! The formula is super gentle and really easy to apply. It does contain zinc but doesn’t leave you with a weird ghostlike filter – which means it’s great for darker skin tones as well. I only wish the SPF was higher. Since it only SPF 30, I felt like I had to re-apply more often than I would have liked.
Tubes/stick applicators are seriously life changing when it comes to reapplying sunscreen to your kids' faces throughout the beach or pool day. First off, you don't get sunscreen all over your hands or in their eyes and it takes seconds to apply to their little cheeks and noses. Plus, Chloe loved the freedom of applying it on herself! Remember, sunscreen should be reapplied every 2 hours. I also recommend the Supergoop! Sunnyscreen Stick!
As you can tell from the state of this bottle, I LOVE this sunscreen. Supergoop! is already a fave, and their new line of kid and baby friendly sunscreen has been an SPF staple in my family. I slathered this all over the girls about 30 minutes before I took them out into the sun. It's a mineral sunscreen, fragrance-free, silicone-free, and hypoallergenic. Plus, it's 80 minutes water resistant, which is perfect for my water baby, Chloe. The only downside is that there was a slight white tinge to the formula.

After a long day of work or a long night of partying, nothing can get you into that peaceful zen mood like a good face mask, a rom-com and a glass of wine.

Since keeping your skin hydrated is such a big part of anti-aging skincare… it’s hard to find that balance when you’ve got oily skin!
