My Daughter’s First Big Girl Bike

I can’t believe Chloe is already old enough to have her own bicycle!

It seems like just yesterday she was learning how to walk and now she’s always asking if we can take our bicycles outside to go get ice cream! I was so excited to team up with Huffy to get Chloe her first ever “big girl bike.” Training wheels and a helmet were included, of course! She was so excited when she saw her bicycle that she was talking about it non-stop and kept putting toys in her front basket.

As if she wasn’t excited enough about having her own ‘big girl bike,’ the fact that it was a Frozen themed bicycle was beyond. I mean, it is her favorite movie of all time right now which really sent her over the moon! It’s got her favorite characters, sparkle tassels, and even a removable toy sled so she can bring her dolls along for a ride.

Of course, I wanted to join in on all the fun so I got this cute blue bike, which is actually extremely comfortable, so we could ride our bikes together all summer long! It was such a fun bonding experience for us, and I know that once she gets the hang of riding on her own, we’ll be taking plenty of bike rides together around town and to the beach! Maybe I can convince Allen to come along, too!

One of my fondest and most favorite memories from my childhood were those long summer days riding my bike around my neighborhood. I can’t wait for Chloe to experience the same magical feeling of getting your first set of “freedom wheels.” My dad was the one who taught me how to ride a bike as a child and once my sister Jane was old enough, he taught her as well! We had matching bikes and would ride around all day after school together.

Since our driveway at home is on a slope, we decided to go down to one of my favorite trails for Chloe’s first official bike lesson. The ground was flat, the sky was clear and the temperature was a perfectly 73 degrees this day.

Did you know that May is National Bike Month? Huffy has partnered with nonprofit Together We Rise (check out the video here!) to donate bikes to foster families across the US to encourage riding as a family in neighborhoods, trails or bike paths!

The best part? Huffy is offering a 20% discount when two or more bikes are purchased together at Huffy.com using the code MAYSAVE now through June! Just in time for summer and just in time for those family bike rides.

Do you remember how old you were when you got your first bike? Let me know in the comments down below and have a great weekend! Maybe now’s the perfect time to take your bike out for a spin, too?
