Get Your Best Glow

Highlighters are a makeup bag necessity.

They look just as good in the heat of the summer as they do in the dead of winter. They can give you a beautiful glow no matter what the weather is like outside. Between liquids, powders, or even cream- there are tons of different applications for highlighters to give you the glow of your dreams whether you like more of a “natural glow” kind of person or a “highlighter on point” kind of person.

Choose Your Highlighter

Like I said above, there are a ton of different types of highlighters to choose from these days. Powders, liquids, creams… the list goes on! You just have to figure out which type works best for you and your skin type. I love all types of highlighters, but recently I’ve been really into this powder/cream highlighters like this one from Lilah B. or this one from Hourglass. They melt into my skin and give it a very natural type of finish.

Depending on the type of skin you have, sometimes that extra bit of shine isn’t exactly what you’re going for. For example, if your skin is on more of the oily side, powder highlighters are generally the way to go! If you have combo skin, a cream highlighter like this one by Glossier would be great, and if you have dry skin- try a liquid highlighter like this one from Flesh or this one from Armani! For liquid highlighters, I like to use my fingers to blend it into my skin.

Choose Your Shade

Just like there are different shades of lipsticks and foundations, there are many different shades of highlighters! Some are more golden, some are more iridescent, some have pink undertones and I’ve even seen some that look like a rainbow! It all depends on your skin tone and what type of look you’re going for. Personally, I like to play around with the more iridescent and pink-ish shades during the summer to show off my tan and utilize the more bronze and golden highlighters to warm up my face during the winter!

Know Where to Put It

So now that you know what type and shade of highlighter you want, now where do you put it! I like to put it wherever the sun would naturally hit my face – so my cheekbones, the bridge of my nose, the inner corners of my eyes, my cupid’s bow- and even my décolletage if I’m wearing something more low cut. If I’m using a powder highlighter, I’ll use a fluffy brush like this one to apply the product, but if I’m using liquid or cream highlighter, I’ll use my fingers or if I’m feeling really ambitious- a beauty blender.
