Balancing Baby, Marriage, & Career

[parallax height=677][/parallax]

First, Happy Memorial Day to all my fellow Americans! As I’m spending this day with my family by the ocean, I couldn’t think of a more appropriate topic to talk about than BALANCE. Some of you may remember my post on How To Have a More Balanced life, but today I wanted to talk more specifically about the 3 aspects of my life- career, marriage, and baby. They all play a crucially important role in my life, and are all equally as demanding … so how can one balance it all at once? Although I don’t have the answer to that quite yet, here are 5 tips that I incorporate into my life in order to balance out my marriage, baby, and career.

1. Openly talk about your goals with your significant other

It’s important to put pen to paper and write down your goals for your life. Openly talk with your significant other about your career, marriage, and family goals. It’s also important to set goals together, so you can both work towards something as a couple. There will be days that are tougher than others, and this will allow you guys to keep each other accountable on those “off days.”

2. Synching Schedules & Carving out date night

I have to admit that I’m not the best when it comes to remembering dates & times, so when we decided to sync our calendars together that was a game changer. This allowed me to keep track of any dates he wanted me to hold on my calendar and vice versa. Once we were able to get this scheduling thing down, that’s when we started to carve out date nights. It’s important to block out time for one another so you can focus on each other without any distractions. We make an effort to do date nights once a week so we can get that quality time in, and catch up with one another.

3. Separate Business with Family Time, and Family Time with Business

My team knows that I do not do business after 6pm. This is effective during business hours because they try to get as much as they can from me while they have me during the day because once I get home the phones are tucked away. Yes, I will sneak in those snapchats here and there, but for the most part, phones are not allowed until we put Chloe to bed. Especially when it comes to dinner. Allen and I made a no phone rule policy because if Chloe sees us on our phones, then she’s going to want to be on the phone too! Dinner time is a chance for us to catch up as a family, and we want to implement that while she is young.

4. Vacationing / Staycationing

We try to do this every 3 months as a family, whether it be going out of the country or staying local for a staycation (as mentioned HERE.) Every time I get away with my family whether it be on a vacation or staycation, I always come back learning something new about them. When you’re in a different environment, not only are you bound to learn something new about them, but you’re also creating meaningful moments together.

5. Be Present

It took me a while to understand how to “Be Present,” but once I did it completely changed how I viewed “quality time.” This meant for me to be 100% when I was at work, 100% when I was at home with Chloe, and 100% when I was spending time with Allen. I’ve also gotten pretty good at not thinking about work when I’m with my family, and vice versa. Being present is something that you have to continuously practice, and soon enough it will come naturally.

I want you to know that it is possible to pursue your dream career while building your marriage and nurturing your kids. It may not be easy, but in the end, it will be the most rewarding and memorable thing that you have ever accomplished.
