Going to fashion week in the winter is always super brutal. Especially coming from the toasty 80 degree weather in LA, it was definitely hard to adjust to the 20 degree weather. If you guys remember my snapchat, my team and I were having the hardest time keeping warm. Even just walking down the street was a struggle! Especially when it’s cold, all you want to do is to stay home and spend all day in bed, am I right? Unfortunately we didn’t have that luxury as we had shows every day, so we had to figure out a way to stay warm and still look great! So after 10 cold cold days, here are my list for 7 things you need to survive the cold!
1. Ear Muffs
It’s crazy how easily you forget about your ears when it’s cold. Sure you’ve got a hat on, a scarf on and a turtle neck, but if you have short hair like me then your ears are totally exposed! Traveling with earmuffs was a total must for my team and I. Just throw a pair in your bag & keep those ears cozy!
2. Hot Hand Pockets
These hot hand pockets were seriously a life saver. I had these tucked into my sleeve so my hands would be warm even when I wasn’t wearing gloves. The best part is that they last for 8 hours so I had them in my purse and whenever I got cold throughout the day I would pull them out. You can buy them in packs and be set for your entire trip!
3. Wool Scarf
Here’s a little tip for you guys, you don’t actually need a super big thick and fluffy scarf in order to keep warm. If you’re constantly on the go like me, having a big blanket like scarf will actually just get in your way. A normal sized scarf like this one is more than enough to keep you warm as long as it is wool!
4. Heat Tech Leggings
These were my fashion week secret weapon. I honestly would have froze if it weren’t for layering heattech leggings under all of my outfits. Underneath this Phillip Lim outfit, I had heat tech leggings, a turtleneck and socks. I actually had two pairs of heat tech socks underneath my boots! I was toasty from head to toe!
5. Thigh High Boots
I know I’ve worn these Chanel boots a lot (a lot being an understatement) but there’s actually a good reason for it! Aside from the fact that they go with everything and they’re really comfortable, they actually keep my legs super warm. The leather acts as an insulator for the heat tech leggings, so I’m nice and toasty! Believe it or not, there’s a way to keep your legs warm without resorting to thick snow pants! Thigh high boots are a must have closet essential for the winter.
6. Leather Gloves
A good pair of leather gloves can make or break your winter. When shopping around for some, I made sure they fit my hands and that they were tech friendly. There’s a little patch on the thumb and index finger that is touchscreen-compatible so I could still text, take pictures and most importantly, snapchat!
7. Lip Balm
Last but definitely not least, always carry lip balm! It’s crazy how dry and chapped your lips can get when it’s cold out. Even just a minute after being outside of our hotel my lips got so dry! There are tons of great lip balms but my go-to is the First Aide Beauty Intensive lip balm. It’s thick which creates a barrier for your lips against the cold wind and it’s super moisturizing. But you can’t go wrong with good old Vaseline to stay keep your lips hydrated!
There you have it! The 7 things you need to survive the cold! Do you have any winter essentials that you swear by? Let me know in the comments below! And be sure to follow along on snapchat (@chrisellelim) as my team and I take Paris Fashion Week by storm!

High boots, ear muffs and big scarf are three things that I could never survive the cold without and I live in
Scandinavia, so I have tested this for years. 😀 Beautiful photos and such a cute post! 🙂

Loving all of these tips Chriselle 🙂 They’re super helpful! I generally try to avoid taking trips during the winter because I know how much I’d be struggling to adapt to the weather. Haha we’re too spoiled by LA weather, don’t you agree? 🙂 And great tip about the ear muffs! I actually really never thought about them (probably because I’ve lived in California my whole life) <3

I’ve just made a post on my blog about how to stay warm and stylish in the cold 🙂 It’s a constant struggle to keep moving in this terrible cold, it’s been -3C yesterday here in Russia, and don’t even get me started on shooting outfits… I’m also thinking about investing in thermal underwear 🙂
