Effective Products for Low Maintenance Hair

I’ve never been one to spend too much time on my hair. Do I wish to wake up each day and look like I have perfectly messy bed-head hair? Yes. Will I spend more than 5 minutes of my time trying to achieve that look? Hell-to- the-no (no offense).

So, if you’re anything like I am and still can’t find more than 5 minutes of effort to address your hair’s wants and needs (even during quarantine), you’re not alone.

Here are my tried and true products that keep my hair healthy, shiny, and looking good.

New hair by my girl, Gregga
  • Aritzia Le Fou Wilfred Tango Blazer
  • Crown Affair The Scrunchie No. 002
  • Ouai Leave-In Conditioner
  • Zoë Chicco 14K Yellow Gold Thick Huggie Hoop Earrings
  • Aritzia Talula Seamless Bra Top
  • Playa California Salt Scrub Shampoo

1. Hair Oils Are Gamechangers

Playa Ritual Hair Oil

After I shower, I ALWAYS use a hair oil while I’m fresh out of the shower while my hair is slightly damp. This hair oil by Playa is clean, weightless, and deeply moisturizes my strands. I add it to the ends of my hair and work my way to the middle (avoid the scalp as it already naturally produces oil) to keep my hair looking healthy and hydrated.

2. Scalp Scrubs Are Magical

Playa California Scalp Scrub

If you haven’t used a scalp scrub yet – you’re missing out! They’re great and should be used once a week in lieu of your regular shampoo. It exfoliates, treats your scalp, and gets rid of any buildup you may have from product and/or dandruff.

3. Leave-In Conditioners Tame Flyaways

Ouai Leave-In Conditioner

I love spraying a good leave-in conditioner on while my hair’s damp. It’s a gamechanger for flyawyas, keeps my hair hydrated, shiny, conditioned, and sleek throughout the entire day without feeling heavy. I’ve gone through so many bottles!
Effortless hair game-changers!

4. Invest in a Great Hairdryer

Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer

Once you try the dyson hair dryer, you’ll understand what all the hype is about. It’s quiet, super fast drying and doesn’t make your hair frizzy one bit. It’s great for those that have thick or curly hair as it cuts down your drying time.

5. Nice Towels Change Everything

Parachute Towels

Having nice towels in the bathroom make showers so much more pleasant. I love these ones from Parachute because they’re lightweight, absorb water quickly, and look great in the bathroom.

6. Pomades Keep Everything in Place While Looking Natural

Ouai Matte Pomade

No matter what kind of hair type you have, this pomade is great for flyaways and baby hairs! Just put a little in the palm of your hands to warm it up and use where needed. I’m addicted to this one by Ouai and go through one a month. I love the scent and how lightweight it feels.

7. Texturizing Sprays are Important

Oribe Texturizing Spray

My hair is pin straight so I love a good texturizing spray to add some oompf and volume to my otherwise flat hair. This one from Oribe is top notch and I’ve gone through several bottles since I found out about them. I usually end with this and spray it at the ends of my hair to make it feel piecey and look voluminous. It also absorbs oil too so it’s a great alternative to dry shampoo.

7. SuperHair Vitamins Work

Moon Juice SuperHair

And… if you’ve been losing more hair than normal due to the stress of everything happening, you’re not alone. As long as it’s not chunks of hair falling out, you should be okay! I’ve been taking my Moon Juice SuperHair vitamins to keep my stands healthy and strong and have noticed less hair’s been on the floor. It’s a daily hair nutrition supplement that targets stress and nutritional deficiencies to promote healthier, thicker, stronger hair. You guys all know I’m a Moon Juice SuperFan!

Don’t forget to throw in an occasional hair mask while you’re scrolling through Instagram, Netflixing, working, or whatever! I’m a firm believer in multi-masking and multi-tasking!

So – get that workout in today, wash your hands, stay safe, be well, keep showing up for the Black Community, and don’t worry about spending more than 5 minutes on your hair!

Until next time 👋🏼
