Are You Double Cleansing? My Top 5 Oil & Cleansing Balms

Double cleansing is a skincare must for me.

It’s a huge part of , and if you try it just once I promise you’ll never look back. Cleansing all of your makeup off at the end of the day is a no-brainer, but sometimes your cleanser doesn’t get it ALL off. The solution? A second cleanser… cleansing oil or a cleansing balm. You’ll be AMAZED at how much gunk is still left on your skin.

I’ve tried and tested what feels like a million cleansers, oils, and balms by now, but I’ve gathered my top 5. I know 5 items seem like a lot, but I love them each for different reasons!

Here’s my breakdown:

If you’re on a budget…

Versed Day Dissolve Cleansing Balm

This cleansing balm came as a happy surprise to me. It’s so smooth and melts into your skin, getting it all off – including waterproof mascara. It’s really light, which is great because balms are usually really heavy or greasy. The only downside I’ve found for this one is that there’s no ‘scooper’ so it has a little bit of makeup residue on it from inititally reaching for it.

If you want something silky…

If you need something heavy duty…

Drunk Elephant Slaai™ Makeup-Melting Butter Cleanser

I'm a big fan of Drunk Elephant products, and this cleanser is no different. I love that it comes with a scooper for the product that magnetically sticks to the lid so you don't have to worry about losing it. It’s a game-changer, to be honest. If your skin is on the dry side, you'll love this cleanser because it’s very rich, creamy, and really gets a lot of makeup off. It's thick to start (kind of like butter texture, which explains the name), but it melts luxuriously when you start warming it up in your hands. I use this for heavy makeup days, especially after a long shoot or an event.

If you prefer an oil…

Shu Uemura Anti/Oxi+ Cleansing Oil

The amount of times I’ve emptied one of these bottles is crazy! I always pick up a few when I’m in Asia. The oil is super light and is the best at removing tough eye makeup that’s been packed on. The only downfall is that it’s hard to find and buy in the US.

Votary Cleansing Oil

This cleansing oil is great but I’m not the biggest fan of the smell. It doesn’t necessarily have a ‘fragrance’ per se, but it’s a little too earthy smelling for me. The formula is also a little thicker than the other products I’ve mentioned and it has more of a honey-like consistency as opposed to a silky texture.
