How to Not Overindulge this Holiday Season

With the holiday season fast approaching, we know what’s going to be on everyone’s minds at any given time: sweets, treats, and unhealthy indulgences. This year, I’m going to try my best to not go overboard. If you remember from this past summer, I quit sugar (check out the post here!) and that really helped open up a lot of doors when it comes to healthy food and alternatives! Today, I wanted to share my tips on how not to overindulge this holiday season.

1. Swap the Soda

I get it, sometimes you need your fix- but I promise if you cut out that sugary soda (or even an apple cider at a holiday party) you’ll feel so much better! I love kombucha, but an alternative I’ve been reaching for recently has been a good hot cup of tea! If you still need a sweet kick, add some honey(Then, while you drink your tea, mix the honey with some yogurt & do a little face mask!)

2. Put Down the Candy

Okay hear me out, you can have some candy, I mean it is the holidays, but all in moderation! One trick I love is to slice an apple and add it to a pan with 1/3 cup of boiling water. Once I cook the apples down for 5-7 minutes, I top it off and add some cinnamon or pumpkin pie spice to the apples as they simmer. Once the water has completely been cooked away, you essentially have an apple pie minus all of the carbs! SO YUMMY!

3. Fast & Easy Breakfast

For me, breakfast really is the most important meal of the day! I’ve been all about my breakfast parfaits recently. Not only is it a great fast and easy breakfast full of probiotics, but it tastes just as good as a snack! I’ll usually do some greek yogurt, whatever fresh fruits or berries I have on hand and some healthy granola like gr8nola (which I’m sure you recognize from my IG)! (Pro Tip: I keep my little pack of gr8nola on me at all times and munch on it throughout the day! It’s the perfect balance of sweet and nutty!

4. Healthy Snacks

Have you guys carved pumpkins yet? One of the girls on my team did last weekend and brought us all some amazing toasted pumpkin seeds! All she did was roast them in the oven. First, wash them off, then spread them out on a cookie sheet and season with some salt, pepper and a little bit of turmeric (or whatever your heart desires)! Bake at 300 degrees F for about 45 minutes, stirring occasionally and all of the sudden you have an amazing healthy snack.

5. Say No To Butter

I know this is harder said than done, but hear me out: when you’re baking, swap out butter with 1/2 cup of Greek yogurt for every cup of butter required! It’s a great alternative and tastes just as good. Coconut oil is also a great alternative for butter when you’re cooking on a stove top!

Do you guys have any tips for not overindulging and overdoing it during the holidays? Let me know in the comments below! And remember, everything is okay in moderation!
