3 Steps to the Perfect Pout

There’s nothing quite like the feeling you get when you find the perfect lipstick. As cheesy as it sounds, it can feel kind of life changing! If you look good, you feel good. But having the perfect pout starts long before you put on your lip color. (PS: See my favorite lip colors for spring here!) When I know I’m going to be wearing a statement lip, especially for an event, there are a few things I do without fail to prep in advance get my lips ready! Keep reading to see my 3 steps to achieving perfect pout:

Step One: Buff Away Dead Skin

No matter what I do, I always end up with some sort of dryness around my lips, especially this time of year. And since nothing looks worse than flaky lips with lipstick on, I always exfoliate!  And since nothing looks worse than flakey lips with lipstick on, I always exfoliate! I found this lip scrub and I love using it to buff away the dead skin on my lips. It’s gentle and really gets the job done. If I want to go the extra mile and get a little extra exfoliation, I’ll take an old toothbrush and gently rub the lip polish onto my lips in tiny little circles for about 30 seconds. Then with a damp towel, I wipe away the excess. My lips instantly feel fuller and healthier!

Step Two: Lip Mask

The second step for me is to throw on a lip mask! This is one of my favorites because 1) it’s all natural and adorable and 2) it hydrates, plumps and is extremely hydrating. I keep it on for about 15 to 20 minutes, which is the perfect amount of time to listen to a podcast (click here to see my some of my favorites!) or catch up on e-mails. When it’s time to take it off, I always rub the extra serum from the mask into my lips so I can soak up as much of the vitamins and goodness as possible.

Step Three: Lip Balm

The last step to achieving the perfect pout is to use a really great lip balmThis one here is my current go-to because it’s super rich, moisturizing and not sticky at all! Just like how I use oil to seal in moisture after my skincare routine, putting on a lip balm after exfoliating and a lip mask helps lock everything in and makes my lips feel silky and velvety soft.  Making it the perfect canvas to put on a killer lip (maybe an orange one?)!

So if you’re getting ready to rock a bold lip or just feel like treating yourself, be sure to give these steps a try!
