How to Fake a Summer Glow

I don’t know what it is, but something about this time of the year makes me overly conscious about just how pale I let myself get during the winter and dreaming of a sun-kissed glow. Is it just me or do we all feel this way come March? Even though I live in sunny Los Angeles, I don’t get as much sun time as you would think.  The solution? Fake that gorgeous summer glow without having to spend time baking in the sun! And you know what?  You probably already have the essential you need in your makeup bag: bronzer.

Bronzer is totally underrated, and I’m sure a lot of people might be intimidated by it.  A lot of times, bronzer is immediately associated with contouring and while its technically kind of true… bronzer can be used for so much more. Using bronzer is a great way to warm up your complexion, but there’s definitely a right and wrong way to do it.

Here are my 4 easy tips on using bronzer to get that gorgeous summer glow:

1. Go matte. A matte color is the best for faking a summer glow. While a slight shimmer is fun, a matte shade (like this one) is the best for warming up your overall skin tone.

2. A little goes a long way! I usually use either a larger face brush to dust a bit of bronzer all over my face with an extra focus under my cheekbones. When I get the product from the compact, I swirl the brush then tap the bristles to get the excess off. Remember, you can always build and add more, but its much harder to take off!

3. Use natural light. If you’re using the light in your bathroom or bedroom, chances are it’s a bit more yellow than natural sunlight, and it can be tough to gauge how much bronzer you need. So take your compact or a small hand mirror and apply your bronzer in front of a window!  Make sure the sun is hitting your face for the best possible lighting.

4. Don’t forget your neck. This is important for foundation too, but especially for your bronzer! Your face and your neck should not be two different shades. So make sure you blend, blend, blend!
