5 Foods to Boost Your Metabolism

Hey, ya’ll!
It’s
Jana Williams! It’s so nice to be back on the Chriselle Factor again today! This community is so inspiring and supportive and I really appreciate all of your comments and feedback!

Can you believe it’s already March? Bathing suit season will be here before we know it and we need to be feeling our best from the inside out! So today, I want to talk about our metabolism. Besides a regular exercise routine and a disciplined diet, another way we can help ourselves maintain our ideal weight and preferred shape is to eat foods that help speed up our metabolism. Being aware of what foods speed up your metabolism could help us create healthier habits that we can benefit from.

So here are five types of food that are great metabolism boosters:

1. Fruits
Grapefruit, oranges, and lemons contain vitamin C which helps metabolize fat faster. A great habit to get into is to start the day with a little lemon squeezed into your alkaline filtered water. Berries like raspberries blueberries and strawberries are also great as they are high in dietary fibers which are difficult to digest and so the body burns a lot of calories in the process. Bananas are also a great fruit choice. Bananas contain potassium and resistant starch which helps keep you full longer and turns on the fat burning mode. So for breakfast try adding some berries to your
Greek yogurt or oatmeal which in themselves are also great metabolism boosters.

2. Caffeine
Believe it or not,
caffeine can also be a great way to rev up your metabolism. The trick here is to not have too much. You should try to limit yourself to one or two cups per day, making sure to also drink plenty of water to help your liver process the caffeine. Green tea is the healthier alternative to coffee because it acts as an antioxidant while also boosting your metabolism. But if you are a total coffee addict like me, try it with a little almond milk and Stevia to cut down on your dairy and sugar intake.

3. Lean Meat Proteins
Meat like turkey and chicken can help build muscles and burn calories. Another one of my favorite quick snacks is to grab some turkey or chicken cold cut sandwich meats (minus the bread of course).

4. Celery
Celery can be a big-time metabolism booster. When you chew on celery you are stimulating your digestion and actually
hydrating yourself, which is key to a better metabolism. Try dipping your celery in guacamole, peanut butter or even salsa!

5. Chocolate
Yup. I saved the best for last. Believe it or not,
dark chocolate can help boost your metabolism. Dark chocolate is rich in magnesium which stimulates fat burning. But of course, as it is with all sweets: less is better.  Everything in moderation, including moderation!

Isn’t it so cool to know that we are more in control of our metabolism then we may have thought? Make sure to incorporate these fat burning foods into your daily diet along with regular exercise and you will notice a difference in no time.
