January is full of detoxes, diets and 5 minute fitness commitments because we can all admit that we’re trying to get in the best possible shape after the holidays, right? Though there isn’t a miraculous magical potion to help you shed that holiday weight, I’ve figured out some easy styling tricks to help you appear smaller and taller! It’s all about playing with visual lines and using prints to your best advantage! Keep scrolling to discover 3 ways to instantly look slimmer!

1. Chevron

I love a classic striped shirt just as much as the next girl, but horizontal stripes can very easily make you look wider than you actually are. Enter the chevron print! It’s instantly slimming and visually gives you a long, lean line. It also gives off the illusion of an hourglass shape! I found this sweater and instantly became obsessed. Since then, I’ve been looking for chevron prints everywhere! I found the same print in this dress and this jumpsuit! It’s flattering on every body type and you can find the chevron trend in so much more than stripes. For example, this ribbed sweater has seams that form a chevron pattern, or this ruffled sweater has the same effect!

2. Vertical Pinstripes

I paired the sweater with some high waisted cropped trousers which are incredibly flattering! And just how horizontal stripes can tend to make you look wider, vertical stripes can slim you down! Pinstripes might be subtle, but they can definitely leave a big visual impact. From wearing it as a suit like I did here or as separates like I did above, everyone needs a good pair of pinstripes in their wardrobe!

3. Pointed Toe Shoes

Another slimming trick? Pointed toe shoes! They visually extend your legs making them appear quite lengthy. The trick works for flatsbootsheels and everything in between.
