3 Ways to Highlight

I was a little late to the game when it comes to the highlighter craze. It wasn’t until a good makeup artist friend introduced me to it, did I start to fall in love with that extra little shimmer. I usually go for a fully matte look, especially when I’m in front of the camera, but now I’m all about that spotlight! I was always hesitant about highlighters because I didn’t want to look like a giant greaseball. So after tons of testing, I’ve found my favorites! They come in many shapes, sizes and consistencies, so which ones are the best? I personally love using buildable gels and liquids vs. powders. I feel like they’re easier to control and blend into my skin or foundation. Plus, they’re easier to travel with! I don’t have to worry about powder palettes cracking!

1. Glossier Haloscope

You all know how much I love anything Glossier. From the Boy Brow to the Stretch Concealer and the Balm Dotcom, I always have something Glossier on my face! So when the Haloscope highlighter was released, I was ALL OVER IT. It comes in two colors, Quartz, which is has a pearlescent glow, and Topaz which give a little more sun-kissed color. The outer ring of the highlighter stick is the shimmer, and the inside core is a moisturizer for extra hydration.

2. Marc Jacobs Glow Stick

The second highlighter I’m loving also comes in stick form. This Marc Jacobs glow stick is incredible. It goes on sheer and is really buildable. It has both gold and silver pigments so it goes onto both warm and cool skin tones perfectly! I love to use this on the top of my cheekbones as well as my collarbones when I wear off the shoulder tops and dresses. It gives the perfect little luxe touch!

3. Mac Strobe Cream

This Strobe Cream by Mac is a force to be reckoned with. It comes in a creamy liquid texture and gives the perfect dewy glow. Sometimes on no-makeup days, I’ll just apply this to give my skin a little extra luminosity. Sometimes I even mix it with my foundation or BB cream! It’s the more subtle of the three highlighters but I love it just the same. If you’re new to the highlighting scene, this is a great starter product!

There you have it, my three favorite highlighters. Do you have a highlighter you swear by? Let me know in the comments below!
