1. Emphasize Vertical Lines
Image orientation is key when posting on IG—especially for interiors. And now that Instagram has eliminated its 1×1 dimension rule, it’s easy to post beautiful images that accentuate all of the details in your home. For interiors, vertical images perform much better than horizontal images. This is especially true if you have high ceilings or any other vertical aspect to your home, like stairs or pillars or a chandelier. Use these features to your advantage! While horizontal photos may seem to capture more of the space, vertical photos offer a closer, personal touch that’ll make your home look bigger.

2. Be Symmetrical
In interiors, it’s all about placement and symmetry. Choose a focal point for your room, like a chandelier or a statement piece of furniture, and make sure it’s at the center of your photo. From there, make sure to style and arrange your furniture so that one side of your room doesn’t look heavier than the other. If you have matching lamps or end tables, make sure they’re even spaced. Also, remember that what looks symmetrical in the room may not look symmetrical from the angle at which you’re taking the picture. Cheat it! You can always put things back in place once you take your photo.

3. Use Color and Texture
The most important tip for posting interiors on Instagram is to make sure your home is well styled. Read these previous articles on styling a coffee table or three ways to style a console to ensure your home is picture perfect. We really like adding bright pops of color, like a bold lamp, or a textural element, like a styled bookcase, to add visual interest.

4. Brighten Your Images
Our last tip is to brighten your images. No one likes the idea of a dim room, and lighting is key to bring out the details of your home. Is there a secret formula? Some images we brighten in Photoshop, others in photo apps like VSCOcam or Snapseed, and some look great with just a touch from the IG brightening tool. But the key is to make your interior look bright and airy with no dark corners… without making the image appear washed out or overexposed.

Loving all of these great tips <3 I've slowly been getting better and better at the flatlay, and interiors were the next thing I was going to challenge 🙂 I always have a hard time with the symmetrical lines, but lately, I've started using the grid that's included in the Camera app on the iPhone, and it's helped tons! Loving all of these great images! Looking forward to even more interior posts next week!
