Updating My Neutrals

My last show during New York fashion week was the gorgeous Ralph Lauren show. When dressing for the show I wanted to pay homage to the classic Ralph Lauren feel, which I would describe as rustic chic with a classic American touch. I’ve been really into the color navy recently so that worked perfectly for the Ralph Lauren show. For the longest time, the color navy got overshadowed by the color black and I never gave it much attention until now. It can be a very strong and bold color if you style it correctly. It’s like the unsung hero of neutral colors! There are a lot of pairings that bring out the best in navy and one of those colors is tan. So for the show, I paired this Ralph Lauren skirt with my Suede jacket, which happens to match in color exactly! I got this jacket a long time ago and I’m so happy I was able to bring it out again for fashion week!

It’s like a cool twist on the classic trench coat because of the suede texture and it’s a great transitional piece from winter to spring because it’s pretty lightweight. Sadly, that also meant I basically froze in the New York temperatures! Luckily I had my Ralph Lauren scarf around my neck to add a little bit of warmth! (Not to mention a few layers of heattech underneath everything!) Oh, the things we do for fashion! So, instead of reaching for white, try tan! And instead of gravitating toward black, give navy a try! It’s a great way to switch up your wardrobe while still staying in the realm of neutrals.

I’m currently in Paris and it’s been harsh weather (nothing as bad as New York, though!) but thankfully my team and I finally got our luggage back (we were luggage-less for 4 days) which made me really appreciate the small necessities in life. Be sure to catch the rest of Paris Fashion Week on my snapchat (@chrisellelim) and have a great Monday everyone!
