Jean Paul Gaultier Spring 2016

I’ve always admired Jean Paul Gaultier for being able to bring so much life to his collections and shows. His shows are always fun, dramatic and memorable. This couture collection was supposedly a tribute to his extravagant and fabulous friends/muses. He created the set to be a bar called ‘Le Palace’ which is a place in Paris that he would go to party in the 70’s and 80’s. Models walked out draped in silk robes, smoking cigarettes, and drinking champagne. One model even kicked off her shoes mid walk! Beyond the fashion, it was about the attitude that the models had. As they walked down the runways, they would interact, kissing cheeks and slapping each others butts!

In my opinion, it was more of a runway performance than a runway show. It was a mixture of everything: punk, androgynous, sensual and all around bad-ass, which was a super refreshing change from all the elegant and beautiful shows of couture week!
