Every Mother Counts

It was the morning after I discovered that I miscarried that I frantically started googling away…seeking for answers, hope, and relatable stories. I was ashamed and I felt like a failure. It was a heartbreaking roller coaster and I found myself grieving alone for months after that. I emotionally blocked everyone out and felt completely numb & alone. I was seeking for answers and it was when I came across this article HERE from Every Mother Counts where I decided to do something about my situation. I realized that I wasn’t alone, and that it was actually quite common to miscarry. It was then I decided to make my Miscarriage Announcment video HERE.  After I opened up about my situation on my channel & blog, I was completely shocked to see how many of my own readers/viewers  had similar complications from their pregnancy and also with childbirth. I came to a realization that our society lacks a compassionate dialogue – a global conversation- for the millions of women that are mourning ever year.
Although it’s mothers day week (my very first one as a mother myself) I wanted to bring awareness to something that is incredibly important to me. Did you know that every two minutes a woman dies from complications in pregnancy or childbirth? This means that 800 mothers dies EVERYDAY as they struggle to bring life into this world. It’s every two minutes that a mother dies from pregnancy & childbirth related conditions, and the sad part is that most of them are preventable!
This mothers day I partnered up with Rebecca Minkoff to share with you her collaboration with Every Mother Counts. As many of you guys know (if you follow me on Instagram), I’ve always used an oversized non-diaper bag as my diaper bag since I couldn’t find one of my liking. I guess I can officially say that my “Diaper Bag” cherry has officially been popped! Besides the fact that I was extremely excited to see that one of my fave designers collaborated with a charity that I’m extremely passionate about, how ultra chic is this purse? I absolutely adore the moto quilted pockets and the Rebecca Minkoff signature zippers on the sides. It’s ultra lightweight, made from packable nylon, and features stroller straps, a changing bag, and a durable cross body strap. This purse is so roomy that I’m able to not only fit all of Chloe’s essentials, but even add a few of my own personal pieces (such as the times I need to stop by at the flower mart and pick up my weekly flowers). Rebecca Minkoff will donate 20% of the proceeds to EMC to support its efforts to improve global maternal health and reduce material mortality worldwide.

This week many of us will purchase flowers, buy a gift, or make that special phone call to celebrate mothers day. I hope that this post will also be a reminder for us to recognize the hundreds of thousands of women worldwide that struggle to secure a safe passageway into motherhood. It’s our responsibility to get the word out there to ensure that all mothers live through pregnancy and birth in order to nurture their children. I hope as a community we will be able to encourage women to have these open conversations with one another, support each other, and instill faith in one another.

“When a child is born, a mother is also born too.”
