Chic Lengths

Confidence is a trait that I lacked growing up. From what I recall I spent most of my adolescent years trying to “fit in”. Growing up in a town where I was the minority I spent more time trying to look like the other girls than embracing my own beauty. For example- I over plucked my brows, nearly shaving them , just to “fit in” back then. There aren’t that  many things I regret in life, but I can say that was definitely one of them. (Anyone else can relate to this tragic “trend” ??)

I’ve had long hair for a good majority of my life, until I decided to chop it all off when I turned 21….and i mean ALLLLL off. I was inspired by Victoria Bekcham’s pixie cut, and decided that this was my one chance to be as POSH as her. So I did and I LOVED it!  Short hair framed my face better, and showed off my strong shoudlers & long neck. Never have I felt so liberated & sexy in my life! Unfortunately the men around me didn’t understand it back then , and the same need of wanting to “fit in”  kicked in once again, so I decided to grow it  back out. It’s been an on & off battle growing out my hair for the past few years, but just a few months ago I decided to chop it off again! Beyonce made me do it….seriously! After seeing her short locks on Instagram, I was completley  inspired to go short once again! And I think it’s safe to say that I won’t be going long anytime soon!

I’m absolutely loving my hair length right now, and decided to add some color to it . Been really into that “I just got up, but really spent 30 mins. working on it” look. Although I’m still able to wear it sleek & straight like I usually do, I’ve been scrunching it up for a more tousled effortless look during the day. I’ve been getting alot of questions on how I style my hair on Instagram, FB, and Youtube. Let me know if you guys would like to see a more in depth tutorial on this. Also if you are thinking of going short, I say jump the gun and do it!! I wont regret it!

Below are the products I use to achieve my effortless tousled locks:

1. SARAHPOTEMPA “Beachwaver” Styling Iron 2. SACHAJUAN Volume Powder 3. Bumble & Bumble Thickening  4. Fekkai Wave Activating Spray

  • Wow. This is surreal. I just (November) decided to cut my hair really short. My hair is really curly and not everyone (mostly my female friends and relatives) really accepted it. Sometimes I forget that I cut it short and look in the mirror and I’m surprised but happy to see that young woman.
    I love your haircut!

You totally inspired me to chop off all my hair. Mine has been long for the past three years, and it hadn’t been this short since I was maybe 10. I LOVE IT so much. Thank you for reminding me that I’ve been wanting to do this.

  • OMG I almost chopped mine off yesterday! But I have such thin hair I feel it will look flat a stupid :(

  • Mell says:

I really love how your hair has turned out :) perfect highlights

  • Monica says:

I love the B&B thickening spray! Love your new hair!

Hi Chriselle! First off I’ll start by saying you look great with both short and long hair, although I must admit the short makes it all even more fun. I had a question, and it just so happens it’s about hair, particularly, bad hair cuts. My hair is very thin and take forever to grow, not to mention it’s been falling out like crazy lately. So I decided to get bangs to go along with my short hair, and it turned out to be kind of a disaster. I can’t really style it, and it makes me feel very akward in everything I wear, even those favorite go-to outfits. I followed the wedding series and the episodes after that, even when you got bangs and I loved every part of it. Now to get to the point of why I’m stressing over it instead of patiently waiting and growing it out. My boyfriend proposed about a week ago and we’re planning a summer wedding, for his year. I would love it if you could give me some tips on growing it out faster, and styling it in the meanwhile. Thank you so much and looking forward to new posts. :)

  • Love the highlights in your hair. You look gorgeous in short hair. It suits you beautifully!

You really look great with short hair! It’s cool how many styles you can create with that lentgh. You can wear it wavy, straight, part your hair sideways and so on 😀

  • SB says:

Hey! Not to be a grammar freak, but “alot” is actually spelled a lot. (; BTW I think you look great with short hair <3

I love your short hair and love how honest you are in this post. It’s funny how we associate beauty with the length of our hair. I was the same way growing up and always tried to fit in instead of embracing my beauty (my dark skn and blue/black hair) and then it became trendy to have bronze skin and celebrtities started dying their hair darker hues. Funny how fashion/trends evolve and cycle back once again! I recently chopped 16″ off of my hair to donate to Pantene’s Beautiful Lengths and love my short hair! I’m planning on growing my hair out to donate once again but a tutorial on how you style your hair would be fantastic!

The short hair looks good on you. It definitely brings out the confidence and portrays a stronger women. I think everybody goes through that face when we try to fit in so hard and do all sorts of things. I had problems making friends because I did not have the money to go out with them or have fancy meals. Infact I did not even take lunch box because I couldn’t afford. No idea what pocket money was. I remember that I spent my bus fare on takeaway lunch just to fit it and then I had no money to go home and I had to catch two busses. God was watching out and someone decided to pay for my fare

Hey Chriselle! I love you in short hair! I cut mine mid last year ’cause like you, I was tired of my long boring hair. I was really inspired by Alexa Chung and a few other who pulls off mid-length hair so effortlessly. I still love my hair now but haven’t been able to style it well. Please please share with us an in depth tutorial and tips&tricks for achieving your hairstyle! Thanks & love

I’m on the same page as you. For most of my life, I’ve had long hair up until a few weeks ago I decided to chop it off all by myself. And a lot of my favorite youtubers and bloggers (you included) just totally made me want to go short and the power of Beyonce got to me too, Lol. You look gorgeous with short hair!

  • This is amazing! I just was complaining today about this, how overrated long hair is, like it was a crime to cut it off.
I used to have long hair to my waist, long and curly and red (not natural), and everybody loved my hair. And after I finished college I decided to cut it and get bangs. Some people wanted to kill me, but I fell in love. Somehow I feel better about myself now, I’m thinking in getting shorter soon.
It looks so much chic and it adds personality, my personality, and not some conventional beautiful hair that most people thing it is just long.
I mean, I’m glad if some woman feel great with long hair, but there’s nothing bad with short. If I could I would have a pixie, but it doesn’t fit me. A bob is better for me I guess. The only thing I really miss are my curls, because when is short, my hair tend to be less curly =(

You look great with short hair and you are totally right about how we all need to learn to feel good about ourselves and not to please everyone, because we can.
And since we have to wear our own skin/hair/weight/etc, everyday, we need to teach ourselves to love all about us.

Thank you for sharing this =)

  • Nicole says:

I’ve had short hair the majority of my life and sometimes I wanna grow my hair out but I always seem to come back to the short! My boyfriend has always liked short hair and I’m always so glad he doesn’t pressure me to grow it! And Chriselle, you give me inspiration to keep my hair shirt too! You always have the cutest styles!

  • Ayanna says:

I’ve gone through the exact same thing! For so long I’ve loved long hair. The one time I had it short – not of my free will but due to the person styling it cutting off WAY more hair than I wanted – it was just below my ear and I hated it (looking back, the particular style of it didn’t fit my face). After that, I never wanted my hair short again. This was about 5 or 6 years ago.
Now within the past year a bunch of my friends had cut their hair short and looked FABULOUS! I’m the kind of person that loves changing up their style, yet my hair hadn’t changed in years. So about a month ago I finally decided to just chop off my hair off. I went from slightly-past-my-shoulder hair to pretty much a pixie cut and I absolutely LOVE it! I actually feel like I can do more with my hair now and I don’t feel like I’m gonna go back to short hair for a while :)

  • Claire says:

Not everyone looks great in short hair, but I definitely love yours :)))

Omg Chriselle I feel you! I had my hair long for majority of my life so far (turning 19 in 2 months!) But I always wanted to try Victoria Beckham’s POB look. I grew my hair long to my waist for prom then I had it CHOPPED! It was inches away from my neck but I had it chopped again before starting uni. I never felt sexier! Short hair is soooo easy to maintain and I’m the only chick out of my friends to rock the short ‘do so I’m unique and super confident!

  • Erica M says:

I prefer you with your short hair! I think you look much more elegant with it shorter.

  • Carol says:

i have the same experience as you: having long hair for a long time and decided to get short hair showing my true personality, and now i wont go longer any more! i like your idea to be yourself and stop “fit-in”. Again, love your short hair, i think it fits you so well(ignore me as a female). can’t wait to see your video tutorial about how to style your short hair!

  • Tanya Sc says:

I just love the short hair on you! And please, do a more in-depth tutorial!! I want to be able to recreate the crunchy look on myself! :)

  • Chriselle! I was inspired by ur short hair few months ago and I managed to cut it shoulder length! Its growing back again and I really want to go back shorter. But im not sure if my face shape is suitable! Ur face shape def fits the short!

  • Carrie says:

You look great in short hair. Ever since I saw one of your old videos (in which your hair is short) i fell in love and was so happy that you decided to cut it again! I’m thinking of cutting my hair (probably doing a pixie cut) but still not sure because i’ve been trying to grow it long for so long and still haven’t seen myself with long hair.
PS It would be awesome if you could show us some pictures of your pixie cut back then. xx

  • chelle says:

whoa I really like your short hair! love your hairdo :)

  • I do love your short hair! It’s very stylish and suits you well!! And it’s pretty neat or messy.

  • Kristi says:

Love this length! I just chopped 3 inches off but thinking of going shorter now!

  • Joy says:

I can totally relate to the whole “fitting in” feeling. Thankfully I have grown to embrace my unique features over the years.
You are totally rockin’ the short do and I LOVE it!!

  • Christine Koay says:

I cut my hair short because of you, Chriselle! You inspired me a lot.. I always thought i will look better with long hair.. but that was because I have seen a lot of girls look good with long locks.. with curls or wavy hair.. I even envy them for their long hair and they can grow it for such long length.. I even try to follow your hairstyle when it’s longer. The hairstyle after you got married.. except the bangs.. And when i see you go for short hair again, you look so chic and sexy. And i wanted to be chic just like you too, Chriselle. So i decided to give short hair another chance and i show my hairdresser one of your picture and i’m happy with the outcome! And I didn’t regret it! The one thing i thought are not good for me are actually the right thing for me after all.. LOL! And yes, I would like to see how you style your hair! Thank you for being an inspiration, Chriselle! =) Lots of love! <3

  • Jessica Rose says:

I love your hair….work with what suits your face shape and hair type…personally I have long hair as I have a very round face…I would love short hair but it doesn’t suit me! ;(

  • Sabine says:

I really love your hairdo! To me it proves that sexy hair doesn’t have to be long hair! I also think it makes you stand out in the crowd, it makes you more special! I personally would be interested in a more in depth tutorial if you’re willing! 😀

  • Rougeuse says:

I love your hair! It’s something that I really want for the last couple of years, but never have the guts to do it. x

  • TERESA says:

Seeing as my hair is pretty short at the moment! I’m really into a lot of these looks!
