Lady In Red

Happy Monday, hope you all had a lovely weekend!  Taking you a few days back to NY, as I wore this little red number on my last day in the city. More often than not when traveling I pre plan my outfits beforehand, so 1. I don’t overpack (i’ve paid one too many overweight baggage fees) and 2. so I precisely know exactly what i’m wearing (nothing worse than having nothing to wear when traveling). Unfortunately this time around I had absolute no time to prearrange, and ended up packing on a whim. Believe me, there’s nothing worse than being rushed to the airport, but I’ve nailed down a tactic when it comes to last minute packing.

1. Stick to Basics (think blouses, skirts, black jeans, Structured coats) because you can seamlessly rotate the pieces, and they will match everything. (Imagine this outfit with a pair of black skinny jeans- voila! Another amazing outfit!)

2. Stick to basic colors such as black, white, greys, & neutrals (again they will seamlessly match the sum of things)

3. Work around 1 Statement color–  RED was my statement color for this trip, so I strategically brought different shades of red accessories, including my Saint Laurent purse and Burgundy booties.

Another quick tip– although the holidays are upon us, and the urge to go out and buy a new statement dress is quite high. Occasionally you can create the biggest statement simply with your basics, such as the outfit i’m wearing above. Instead of splurging on a new holiday dress, try pairing your basic (red) blouse with your basic (red) skirt, and to top it off your classic (red) coat to create the ultimate statement.  Better to have a closet full of basics that you mix & match in 20 different ways , than a closet full of statement pieces that you can only wear once.
