As i’m back in drizzly California bundled up in my oversized knit sweater, it’s hard to believe that I was wearing this tropical outfit in Hawaii just a few days ago.
My childhood best friend of 16 years got married on the gorgeous island of Oahu, and a group of us decided to make an extended vacation out of it. In lieu of staying at your typical hotel/resort, we rented out an exquisite estate/ house in the North Shore, an hour away from the city. When in Hawaii I usually stay in the more “touristy” area of Waikiki, so it was a nice shift to be tucked away in a more quiet & solitary location. Besides this outfit, I spent all weekend in flip flops , bikinis, & cut off shorts. Morning coffee by the beach was a necessity, daily coconut runs were a must , and midday swims became routine….I was getting used to the island life.
As I was getting acclimated to the island pace of life, I also found myself having difficulties to “dress up”. I mean, why would I need to throw on a pair of heels when I have my flip flops, and a skirt when I have my cut off shorts, right? But there was certainly no way I was going to be present at the rehearsal/welcome dinner in my bikini and floppy hat. So I ended up styling my white halter dress into a top by layering a tropical skirt over it. I packed very minimally on this trip, which gave me all the reason to find multiple ways of wearing the pieces that I brought. Although I’m back here on the mainland, I find myself constantly in and out of my island daze. I definitely left my heart in Hawaii.
P.S Hope you all had a lovely thanksgiving, and if your like me i’ll be spending the rest of the weekend shopping…in bed. Make sure to check out all the insane weekend sales HERE.
